My goal is to provide a quick glance of what was happening in The Golden Era of Piracy in any given year.  As events are added, they will be sorted first by year, then by month and date (if I have it).

Events in the Carribbean from the Arrival of Columbus to the American Independence War

1492          Christopher Columbus discovers the New World

1506          French Ships operating in the Caribbean

1542          The Dutch trade in the Caribbean

1562-68     John Hawkins' four trading voyages

1573/1585 Francis Drake's exploits in the Caribbean

1615           Court of Vice-Admirality set up in Newfoundland

1624          St. Kitts settled by the English

1627          Barbados settled by the English

1628          Nevis settled by the English

1630          Buccaneers move from their original base in Hispaniola to Tortuga

1632          Antigua and Montserrat settled by the English

1651          Navigation Act passed

1652-54     First Dutch War

1655          Jamaica captured from Spain by the English

1660          Second Navigation Act passed

1665-67     Second Dutch War

1667          Edward Mansfield, buccaneer leader dies; Henry Morgan succeeds

1668-69     Henry Morgan sacks Puerto Principe, Porto Bello, and Maracaibo

1668-71      2,600 men from Jamaica join the Buccaneers

1670          Henry Morgan sacks Panama

                  Treaty of Madrid signed, peace b/t England and Spain

1672          Henry Morgan sent to England to answer for sacking of Panama, knighted and sent back to Jamaica.

1672-74     Third Dutch War

1674-82      Sir Henry Morgan is lieutenant-governor of Jamaica

1680          A group of Buccaneers, including Richard Hawkins, launch the Pacific Adventure

1681-82     Rev. Lancelot Blackburne, later Archbishop of York, sails with Buccaneers

1688         Sir Henry Morgan Dies

1694          French forces attack Jamaica; defeated at Carlisle Bay

1696         Third Navigation Act passed

1702-13     War of Spanish succession, ended by Treaty of Utrecht

1716          Edward Teach (Blackbeard) takes to piracy

1719         Bartholomew Roberts takes to piracy

1720        Charles Vane and Jack Rackham hanged, Mary Read dies in prison in Jamaica

1721         George Lowther takes to piracy

1722         Bart. Roberts killed, he had caputured 400 ships in 3 years

                John Evans takes to piracy; 41 pirates hanged in Jamaica

1723         Finn and five pirates hanged in Antigua; 11 others hanged later

1726         Nicholas Brown dies

1776         War for American Independence
