Welcome to the Pirate Library
I actually own and have read all these. All of these books are available through Amazon.com.
Historical Non-Fiction
Cordingly, David (ed.). A Worldwide Illustrated History, PIRATES: Terror on the High Seas from the Carribbean to the South China Sea. JG Press, Inc. Noth Dighton, MA. 1998. ISBN: 1-57215-264-8
Has great sections on Piracy before the "Golden Age". Many explanations of pirate codes, life, recruitment, etc. Also has a section on piracy today in the east and some graphic pics of decapitated pirates.
Cordingly, David. Under the Black Flag. Harcourt Brace & Company, Orlando, FL. 1995. ISBN: 0-15-600549-2
I just bought this and haven't read it. BUT this is a book, not good for quick references. Read this or in depth pirate history.
Beautiful Pictures and drawings. Each two-page spread is a different topic or pirate. Great for quick references. Intro by David Cordingly.
Konstam, Angus. The History of Pirates. The Lyons Press. 2002. ISBN: 1-58574-516-2
Beautiful Pictures and drawings. Each two-page spread is a different topic or pirate. Great for quick references. Intro by David Cordingly.
Reinhardt, David. Pirates and Piracy. Konecky & Koncky, New York, NY. 1997. ISBN: 1-56852-139-1
Easy to find headings and each pirate has he/her own story.
Shomette, Donald G. Pirates on the Chesapeake: Being a True History of Pirates, Picaroons, and Raiders on the Chesapeake Bay, 1610-1807. Tidewater Publishers, Centreville, MD. 1985. ISBN: 0-87033-43-7
Another book, not good for quick references. I haven't read this one either, but the only book on Chesapeake Pirates I know of.
