Family Background: John is the son of free traders Willem and Rhea. He grew up on the 'Oliver Cromwell', a trading ship that spent much of its time outside the Federation. He quickly grew into a curious child and quickly charmed any visitors. When he was 12, John delivered the anti-viral for Gorn Blood Fever and was one of the Two Hundred that stopped a rival clan from capturing the palace. He knows over a dozen languages through natural learning, as well as eighteen more through Starfleet RNA downloads.
Academy Record: John entered the Academy at 16 and excelled in engineering and tactical classes. His lack of formal education made science classes difficult for him, and he graduated in the middle of his class. John was extremely popular and earned 'favors' from his fellow cadets, a fact that would help him during his career.
Service Record: John served on the USS
Watcher (Norway-class) for six years and was
involved in numerous border skirmishes and
the brief Hot War of 2361. He rose through
the duty positions quickly, becoming Chief
Tactical Officer and a full Lieutenant before
the Watcher was decommissioned after a Breen
border skirmish damaged the nacelle
pylons.
John's next ship was the USS
Harlan Ellison (Akira-class), where he was
C-Tac and patrolled the Federation-Romulan
border.
When the Dominion War broke out,
he was promoted to Lt. Commander and assigned
to the USS Patton (Nebula-class) as XO. He
served on it until its destruction, when he
was promoted to Commander and given the USS
Growler (Defiant-class) to command.
He
served with distinction and was promoted to
Captain and became head of the 'Sexton's
Gravediggers', a squadron of five Defiants
assigned deep-penetration missions. John was
responsible for gathering the intel that
allowed the Federation to destroy the entire
Eleventh Order.
When the war ended, he
was part of the occupying force and managed
to keep the peace. He was forced to fire on
the IKV Kreen's Hand for attacking a
Cardassian convoy. John served as a sector
general until he was assigned the USS
Sherman.
Personality: John is calm and thoughtful, but doesn't show his inner feelings. He is nurturing of his crew and works on charming people, but he only shares his inner self with a few trusted friends. He takes losses hard.

Hobbies: Hydroponics, model-building, archaeology, languages.
Misc: Bajoran earring is from woman he loved who was killed by the Cardassians. She left Starfleet for the Maquis.
