Salt vs. Boiling Temerature


Purpose:
This experiment will test the idea that salt will change the temperature at which water boils.

Materials: 2 100ml-Beakers, 1 Thermometer, Salt, Hot Plate or Heat Source, Goggles.


Procedure:

  1. Read all instructions before you begin the lab experiment.

  2. Make sure to wear your saftey goggles at all times.

  3. Turn on your hot plate.

  4. Fill both beakers with 50ml of water.

  5. Add salt to one of the beakers.

  6. Place both beakers on the hot plate.

  7. When the water comes to a boil record the temperature in your data table.

  8. Clean your lab area.

  9. Gather data from other lab groups and enter your findings in the data table.
