Mazorha From Behind the Wall
If you've not read the first parts, e-mail me and I'll send it. My computer (old 2-86) is too slow for re-post it.

VII – Mazorha et Liel

Mazorha exited her chamber, staggering. She had just had the time to rest after what had happened with Liel. She let her back against the, now closed, door and took a long breath into her body, trying to calm down. But the impulses that ran in her nerves non-stop were insatiable. For the first time, she did not force the pain to calm but hid it and put on the Zo’or mask. The painful waves pulsed against her temples. She started walking and seemed satisfied of how she was able to hide what tormented her.

And she was Zo’or again. A tortured Zo’or, not only by the pain, but too by the souvenir, the souvenir of what Liel had done, the last night. The way he had touched her, the way he had spoke to her… She could still feel the place where his hot lips had stroked her hand.

Zo’or shook the head. She must not think to this. She needed to concentrate on her task. The little bit of Mazorha still present in her, lifted her hand to her neck and stroked the place where she knew the necklace Liel had given her was, under the purple Taelon suit. She stopped the gesture and walked through the door of the bridge. She went, as always, sit in her chair in the middle of the room. An attentive eye could have seen that her moves were a little more stiff, less fluid-like. But the agent Sandoval was not on the bridge. There was just Kincaid that worked in front of a computer where, usually, Sandoval was.

No. She could not concentrate today. With a gracious wave of the hand, Zo’or started the energy stream in front of her and, of a touch, she canceled all her meetings today. She was not even sure if she would be able to stay on the bridge longer than some hours. The pain was already starting to take control of her.

A long chill ran in her body. Kincaid turned toward her and smiled as a salute before passing in front of her chair for go work on another Taelon device, beside a Volunteer. She bowed in response. The young man was visibly preoccupied by something. He was always frowning and in three minutes and fourty-six seconds, his stare slid away from his work seven times, for lost itself in the stars. He was pensive. But about what.

Why did she think about Kincaid? She shook her head and turned back to the stars. Inevitably, like against her own will, her gaze came back to Liam. He was young for a Human, the young thirties. Not still beyond the middle of his life. She knew he had no mate, or that his relationships with those never subsisted a long time. But he was quite popular with the feminine gender, if she just thought of what she had heard of two young female Volunteers speaking about him. His moves were calm. He always appeared relaxed, unlike agent Sandoval. Da’an was lucky to have him as protector, he was loyal and trusted. It must be more interesting to talk with him than to listen to Sandoval long and annoying reports. She envied, in a way, the relationship between Da’an and Liam. This trust, this friendship even… She could share this with no one. She had no friend, had no one to trust, a person she could tell everything to, a confident, no one to who she could tell the truth. No one. She was alone. Respected and feared, but alone. She remembered perfectly the horrified grin on Liam’s face when he had seen her almost dying in the woods. She had thought, she had been sure, that he would let her die there and go away, trying to save his own skin firstly. But no he had saved her and after, had took care of her. She was alarmed by the way she was now thinking and tried to concentrate about something other.

Kincaid was an interesting man. He had secrets, many secrets, but which secrets. She knew he was linked to the Resistance movement and to the ANA also. But there was something other than that. Something different. That she had always felt in his presence, but not in other Humans’ presence. Strange.

Zo’or did not remark that her hand had slid another time toward the necklace in her neck. She brought it back on her knees sharply, angry with herself.

Suddenly she felt a painful wave ran in her body again. It was enough for make her lose her Human appearance while some seconds. It was enough too for that Liam came closer, worried.

“Zo’or? Are you alright?”

She shook her head and raised. Her legs were shaking. “Say to Sandoval that I will not require his services today. I am going back into my quarters,” she whispered. It was nothing, but an imitation of the harsh and cold tone she had the habits to use with Humans. It was a chance that there was no Taelon on the bridge at this early hour. They would have fastly seen that something was not normal. And the only Volunteers had heard nothing.

Kincaid took a step back but the doubt was still visible on his features. “I’ll help you go back then,” he said firmly. Zo’or opposed nothing to the decided attitude of the young protector. She even accepted his arm for jump down from her chair.

¤

She was trembling. Liam felt the Taelon shake next to him. He knew not how but Zo’or managed to keep her face calm and looking peaceful. There was just a shadow of the usual arrogance. He did not realize that he was holding Zo’or’s arm in his hand.

They stopped, after many turns in the maze of corridor, before a door. Zo’or stopped in front of the door, and slowly lowered the eyes on the place where Kincaid’s hand was, gripping his arm. The Human flushed red a little and immediatly released him.

Her hand slid on her neck, stroking the necklace under the purple fabric. Liam saw it but made just as he had remarked nothing at all.

“You are dismissed,” said Zo’or sharply, bringing him back into reality.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, hoping to excuse at the same the lack of attention and the fact that he had held Zo’or’s arm tightly.

Zo’or looked as Kincaid disapeared in the corridors’ dark shadows. She entered in her chamber. She knew that Liel would not be there, he was never there during the day. As always, she fell more than she sat in her chair. It was just if she had enough strenght for raise the arm to start the energy shower she so needed. Zo’or lay in the chair, surrounded by the faint tickling of the energy particles. She was fast unconscious, her ‘sleep’ only troubled by the painful moaning that escaped her lips.

¤

Liam suddenly saw that Zo’or’s chamber was very close to the chamber where he met Mazorha. He frowned and came back in his steps. The door of Zo’or’s chamber was closed. The Synod Leader’s chamber was just some meters away from ‘his’. A way too strange for be a simple coincidence.

Kincaid let his back against the purple glowing wall and remembered that he had seen Zo’or put his hand on his neck, where the necklace he had given Mazorha could, would, be. Mazorha suffered too, as Zo’or apparently did. Add to that the fact that Mazorha had not wanted to reveal to him her identity because she feared that he would reject her, because, she said, she was not liked much by the Humans. There were too much coincidences.

Liam hesitated, it was unlike him to listen at the door but… with such an occasion. He approached the door and pressed his ear against it. He heard moaning, long painful moaning. His eyes widened, it was that he heard when Mazorha could not talk because she said she suffered too much.

The next thought was: it’s impossible! Zo’or would never have let me do what I did last night! But if you took the things on the other side. If it was Mazorha the true person and not Zo’or, if Zo’or was just a mask, a mask for hide the pain…

Liam stopped the peregrinations of his mind. ‘Stop that! You’re divagating! Zo’or cannot be Mazorha! It’s impossible!’ He listened again. He heard again moaning. He suddenly felt sad that Zo’or was hiding so much pain. The moaning became louder. And something between a moaning and a scream was heard, and then another deaden noise was heard, like something, or someone, falling on the ground. And then Liam could try to listen, he heard nothing anymore.

“Zo’or?” he called. He understood some seconds too late that he was not supposed to be here. But when he saw that he received no answer, he called again, “Zo’or?” Louder this time, more alarmed too.

Still no answer. He knew what Zo’or would say if she found him in her private chamber. He took the chance and entered. The door vanished inside the rest of the wall with a soft noise, almost unhearable. It was dark. He saw a form slumped in a corner, on the ground.

Zo’or was there, the arms tightly passed around her knees, those pressed against her chest. She was rocking herself, slowly, in a hypnotic-like motion. She was in her natural state. The lines of energy were almost non-moving. Liam knew not much about Taelon physiology but he knew for sure that it was not a good sign. Zo’or was whispering words to herself in her native tongue.

The young man stepped closer, not very sure of what to do. He knelt beside Zo’or. The Synod Leader seemed to remark him. She had a look of such a pity, such a shame, to have been seen in another one than Zo’or, than Liam felt guilty. It was like look in the eyes of someone who was just raped, who had just been raped in the most intimate sort of way. It was the feeling it made in Liam’s head, the feeling to surpise someone in his privacy.

“Get out! Immediatly! Let me alone!” The words were cut by Taelon’s words, as if Zo’or could not concentrate completly on the tongue she was speaking.

“You’re sick. I’ll certainly not let you alone!” answered Liam.

Zo’or lowered the head and, despite the effort it had cost her, raised on her feet and with a slow move of her head brought back on the human facade. Liam followed the raising move, ready to support Zo’or if she needed so. She shivered and was visibly on the edge to fall on the ground, but refused to take the hand the young man was extending to her.

She was able to sat in a nearly chair and smirked acidly. “I told you to leave me Major!” she said as coldly as she could.

“It’s my job to protect you,” responded Liam, softly.

Zo’or trembled and lost her human disguise for good this time. She opened wide eyes and Liam had just the time to take a step forward, receiving Zo’or in his arms. The Taelon fell in his arms. She was shaking again and Liam sensed her hoarse breathing in his neck.

She spoke in Taelon, he understood nothing, it was too hoarse, too weak. But he heard Mit’gai’s name many times. He understood that Zo’or wanted to see the Taelon healer. Now!

Re: Mazorha From Behind the Wall
VIII – The last of the Kimeras

Loskell climbed the few stairs that lead to her command chair. She saw around her, the students and the candidates work harder as they felt her eyes on their shoulders. She turned toward her Lieutenant.

“Marlialel, tell me how the search for Ha’gel has progressed,” she commanded.

The one who had been called advanced toward his master. The energy lines that travelled in his body were accelerating, showing his great nervosity. “The experiment that Ha’gel was the victim of has modified his mind state. He was in a much unstable state when he has chosen the race and the planet that would be used as catalyst for the hybridization…”

“And which planet did he choose?” she asked, straight cutting his explanations.

“The third planet of the Miar’fa solar system, Master,” Marlialel responded, lowering the head, respectfully, hoping visibly to be forgiven of his mistake.

“It seems, if I remember well, that an inferior species live on this planet, no?”

“Yes, Master. But Ha’gel obviously saw there some interest for our people. As a Taelon did in the past. Ma’el has studied this race during many years,” answered servilely her subordinate.

She was moving her fingers slwoly. “If both Ma’el and Ha’gel have chosen this planet, then its inhabitants must conceal some potential. You are dismissed,” she ordered.

“There is,” started Marlialel, timidly.

She turned toward him a icy stare, vividly encouraging him to elaborate further.

“The… The Taelons are on this planet,” he murmured.

Loskell sensed a cold anger rising inside her. The Taelons, this damned race that had dared use them. It was a chance that a part of their people had survived for exterminate them. Since how long she was searching for them through the whole galaxy, she had found where they were hiding, finally. She could not rely on the Jaridians, their technology was at the same level that the one of the Taelons, mine or less. Not enough evolved for be of an use to them.

Her shakarava lit up in her palm. She thought to this old Taelon legend, that she had found the meaning to be so true. Shakarava will come back some day for kill his twin, Umrathuma, the liar. They were Shakarava and the Taelons, Umrathuma.

She would make them pay, all of them would pay, for what they had done.

“You are dismissed,” she repeated to Marlialel, dryly. Her Lieutenant bowed his head at ther and, as faslty as he could, he walked away. She allowed a small smirk to appear on her fine lips. How she loved to rule this ship, she was their Master. Her subordinates and students were so terrified by her that it was almost amusing.

Liel, Ha’gel’s son. The first hybrid of their racem was waiting for them, there on this planet, so far away from his own people. They were searching since a so long time for this hybrid Ha’gel had had for mission to create. If he was worthy of it, she would bring him with them, but if not, she would kill him as she had killed all her ennemies.

She looked out through the bay window, the stars begin to move slowly as the ship moved, changing its direction, obeying the order of her mind.

Re: Mazorha From Behind the Wall
XI – Diagnosis

Mit’gai arrived only a short time after Kincaid had called him. He entered in Zo’or’s private quarters and found her lying on the floor, the head on the knees of this Human.

“What have you done?” Mit’gai exclamed, in a tone somewhere between simple anger and a pure state of shock.

“I’ve done nothing!” retorted Liam, offended. “He said that he was returning in his chamber and he was staggering so I helped him. After he screamed and he fell on the ground. He didn’t move since that,” explained Liam, more calm, as seeing reassuringly the Taelon healer calm down too.

“How many thousand times have I told him that he needed to rest much more…” he muttered, kneeling beside his patient. Liam could not help but smile. Mit’gai was one of the Taelons, if not the only Taelon, the more unpleasant he knew. But his job was to heal any living being, and, damn, he did it so well that his behavior could pass at the second plan.

Mit’gai took Zo’or’s body from Liam’s arm in his, with a surprising strenght and laid her softly on the ground. He slid slowly his hands on the young Taelon’s chest and lost his Human appearance as he seemed to concentrate.

“Something’s wrong?” asked Liam, worried.

Mit’gai raised, “Leave us and keep silence about what has happened there! You have understood me well enough major?” snapped the healer at Liam.

Kincaid frowned and exited. Mit’gai looked as the bioslurry closed behind the man and sighed longly. He only hoped that Da’an’s protector would follow his orders. He leaned over Zo’or’s unconscious body again. He slid a hand at the base of her neck for see how high were the energy impulses. But his fingers found a small chain of a golden color that Zo’or had apparently hid under his suit. He sighed and continued his examination.

The Ka’atham. He had believed that Zo’or was done with its pain since centuries. His hands suddenly stopped moving when he realized that Zo’or suffered like this since almost four hundred years. His eyes widened in admiration and in sadness also, to know that he should have known, that he could have done something. Perhaps. No one was healed after Ka’atham, someone healed you after it. But now, now that their species was completly sterile, no one could provide her what she needed. He sighed again. If only she had told…

Mit’gai undid the upper part of Zo’or’s suit, showing one of her shoulder. He pressed one hand against her shoulder and the other against her left temple. He sent energy impulse in the weakened taelon body until Zo’or re-opened her eyes. The first thing she did was to moan longly, bringing her hands press tightly against her abdomen. The she realized that Mit’gai was staring at her with wide eyes.

The look in her bottomless blue orbs was the same look she had given Kincaid when she had awoken earlier and find him in her chamber.

“Do not tell anyone, I beg of you,” she heard herself say. Zo’or had the feeling to see the whole scene from soemone else’s eyes. It had happened many times before, when the pain was unbearable, sometimes, more and more often.

Mit’gai closed his eyes briefly. He looked so sorry about what was happening to Zo’or. “I believed you had been healed long ago…” he whispered.

She trembled again and almost fell on the ground, unconscious. “Like everyone,” she replied then, weakly.

Zo’or had the surprise of her life. Mit’gai surrounded her with his arms and forced her to sag agaisnt him and she had noc hoices but to let her head fall on the healer’s shoulder. Sh felt that he surrounded her with his feelings in the Commonality. Not as a friend, or as a parent, but as a healer, a compassionate healer. She had always believed that Mit’gai was cold, hard, like T’than in a way. She allowed herself to let her tired and aching body repose against the scientist’s some moments and then backed slightly.

“You should have said it Zo’or,” said the healer, softly reproaching her to have keep this under silence during all those years.

“And what would you have done?” she answered bitterly, hardly even. “You would have done the same fruitless treatment again? For simply understand that I cannot be healed? I still prefer to stand it,” she exclamed harshly, angrily in front of the scientists’ lack of knowledge about what to do for her.

“We could at least try…” suggered Mit’gai, helping Zo’or to sit.

Zo’or smiled, one of her smirk, bitter, acid, futile. “In any ways, it is already too late for me. You, or any other person, can do nothing for me, other than let me die with a minimum of dignity,” she said dryly.

Mit’gai seemed surprised by Zo’or’s voice. “Zo’or, calm down, your situation is not that desperate…” murmured the healer, hoping to reassure the young leader.

Zo’or lowered the head and sighed, letting to Mit’gai the chance to examine her. He ran a small device on her chest, ignoring the Synod Leader’s painful moanings. After some minutes, he ceased and placed the many instruments on the ground beside him.

“Zo’or…” he started.

“I know that there is no hope, I knew it from long…” said the young Taelon. She knew very well what were the words that Mit’gai had not said. She was dying. Hiding her pain to everyone had not only good sides. She had hid her pain, sacrified her life for try to save her people and she would be the first to die of their decline.

Mit’gai raised on his feet andhelped Zo’or to do the same. She staggered and had just the reflex to grip the arm of a chair for sustain herself. Mit’gai went to one of the walls of the chamber and opened a small compartment. He took something that he carefully placed in the center of his palm and came back to Zo’or.

“No… I have always refused to-…” began Zo’or, taking a step back, as if Mit’gai was dangerous.

“Zo’or, if you do not take it, you will maybe not pass this night,” Mit’gai interrupted her, giving her a seriousful look from the corner of his eyes.

Zo’or looked at the thing that Mit’gai handed her. Kryss. More Taelon-like, in a small orb, the same than with the Bliss, some months before. But if she took that, she would became dependent of it, as Da’an was now. She wanted not to become dependent of something, and even less of someone. She was very young when she had promised herself that the only thing she would be dependent of would be herself. Nothing else, and no one else.

Mit’gai approached her and opened the sphere, letting to Zo’or the chance of see the relieving light and energy that could slow down her suffering during a short time. The young Taelon turned her head away.

Mit’gai’s face showed his disaprouval and growing impatience at Zo’or’s behavior. “Zo’or! Be reasonable-…” He was interrupted harshly.

“I am the Synod Leader, Mit’gai! Leave this place now!” snapped Zo’or, one a tone that could accept no replies. The healer smiled sadly, Zo’or would decidly never change.

“Very well.” He turned away and opened the door.

Just when he was going to exit, he turned back and went to table, placing the open Kryss orb on it. “You will not be able to hide forever Zo’or. You will maybe survive one day, but you have not fourty-eight hours left. Tomorrow it will be so suffering that you will not be able to speak or to walk. Take it Zo’or, it will allow you to go on the bridge today and to assume your rôle, or, as you said, to die with dignity.” This said Mit’gai shook sadly his head and left there a wondering Zo’or. Wondering about how true could be what the scientist had just said.

While leaving, Mit’gai nearly bumped in Liam. “What are you doing here?” he exclamed. The idea that this Human could have hear their discussion was most disagreeable. “You had been told to leave,” he added, looking more calm.

“I… just wanted to be sure that Zo’or was okay,” he responded. “And it’s my job,” he added, hoping vainly to justify himself to the healer.

“Zo’or is perfectly well,” snapped Mit’gai, intenting to hide what Zo’or’s true condition was. “You have surely much work to do,” he suggered, visibly wishing that Liam go away as fastly as possible.

Liam bowed respectfully at him and heard Mit’gai muttering something in Eunoia about the Humans who had too much privileges ont his ship before vanishing in the corridor’s shadows. He turned, curious, toward the door of Zo’or’s chamber, than had been left open. He shot a look inside for check if the Synod Leader was, as Mit’gai had so well said, alright. Liam had heard bits of Zo’or and Mit’gai’s talking and, even if it was in Eunoia, he wished he had understood wrong.

He saw Zo’or leaning over the glowing ball in the darkness of the room. Zo’or had not still enough strenght to put back on her human facade and kept her right arm tightly pressed against her abdomen, as she tried, futilely, to stop the pain that afflicted her. Her left hand was gripping the table for steady herself.

Kincaid understood that it was not the best moment for speak to the Synod Leader. But he still kept watching, knowing that Zo’or ignored his presence. The Taelon trembled and nearly fell on the ground. She took a good breath and closed her eyes. After many seconds of concentrating, she was finally able to put back her human facade.

“Forgive me…” she murmured. And with the back of her left hand, she threw the sphere against the wall, in an explosion of light. She had destroyed all what could have allowed her to stay alive, for preserve the appearances, for not appear weak. And after a whole life of suffering, it was time for her… to take a well-desrved rest. She forced all the pain she could to go away from her mind and left her chamber for go on the bridge.

Mazorha would die.

Seven: *bump* Yes! Poor Zo'or
Jeanne: You are very good. It's beautiful. As I read the new parts, I felt for Zo'or. I wanted to go and hug him.

You know this addressing a Taelon with "she" is infectious,
I always think of "he", but since reading your story, sometimes a "she" slips in without thinking. :lol
I see them still as androgynous, but the addressing pronoun(sp?) gets confused. :rollin

More! ;)

Re: Mazorha From Behind the Wall
I'm sorry, it's not a new part. I saw that some of you are a little confused by Zo'or's 'genderM in this story. In this, Zo'or is thought to as female. But when any of the characters talk, they will call her in the masculine form. As if they were in the show. But I think I just felt too strange to refer to Zo'or as she.

New part coming up soon. I'm working on the french version right now. Spoilers: Da'an will get in.

Re: Mazorha From Behind the Wall
Okay, I gotcha there. :) Zo'or does seem slightly more feminine when he's talking quietly, so I can see what you mean in this fic when he's called he but thought of as "she."

Looking forward to next part.

Re: Mazorha From Behind the Wall
Don't take me too serious.
I love the change in the way of addressing Zo'or.
It's just in my mind, it gets confused, when I think of Taelon. It has not really something to do with the story. I just beginn to use the "she" without noticing.
:lol :lol :lol :lol
What's funny to me is that I use it only after U set a flie??(what ever) in my ear and I can't get rid of it, it get's stronger.:lol
It doesn't change my view of the Taelon(s).

Male, female- doesn't matter. They are hermaphrodites(sp?)means -both-. Choose as you see fit.
I lurk and lurk and wait for more.;)
