Galacticon 2001 Review

Marine Major Achbar vestai-Kurkura:
I went to Galacticon this past weekend. Originally, I was not going to go. In the end, I am glad I did.

The Con itself was rather small. A staff person told me that this was once called Magic Carpet Con. There was a year Gap and then it started again.

The Con Suite, was indeed Suite. I had a time. The food kept flowing and people there really busted butt to make sure everyone was well fed. FREE BEER! I don't drink...It was nice to see all the same I have to admit.
The Dealer's room was small as Hell. The goods were select for the most part. I liked it over all.

This was not bad for the most part. We got to the Con at 130pm. Silly me...I thought the Con was going to be in full swing about the time we got there. No such thing happened. Registration opened up at 3pm. What can I say?

The Con Scheduling was pretty simple. They left most of the happenings to KAG people. There was some SCA stuff here. We had a breakfast Chat with Diana Paxson. She started the SCA so many years ago. It was actually nice to have heard from her. She is a nice lady. I hope to see here again one of these days. There was some filking going on as well. I liked that. Filking has never been huge on my list of things to do. This year..it was fun.

The Klingon Assault Group is a fun club. There were a enough members at Galacticon to make it worth attending. It had a blast meeting people Like Kerla, K'Jett and a host of other people I hadonly spoken to online.

The Guidelines have been re-issued. These guidelines are the same..just condensed. These will be online soon I have heard.

My view of KAG is that it is a club that is fun and has fun people in it. There are those who take it seriously and those who do not. Communication is becoming better.

I left Galacticon with a number of feelings. I belong to the SCA as man know. That is a Huge organization by comparison. That is an organization i put alit of energy into. KAG on the other hand is a small organization. I have seen people bust ass to get things done and I have seen people sit on their fingers. What makes things worse in KAG is by being a smaller club....the lack of immediate response is very noticeable.

I have agreed to gather information nd to then Pass it on. My attitude will be a positive one. I have noticed that we have lost a number of ships in KAG. Things are on an up Swing I think. In 1994 when I first became aware of KAG, we had a number of ships in North Carolina. Most had very active chapters. We are a skeleton of that now. We have the IKAV GrandInquisitor and the IKV Executioner. There is a Demon Ship close by in SC.

My short term goal is to recruit new members in The Carolinas. I hope to recruit in Va as well. I have appointed myself ship's Recruiting Officer and Lt Col Q'Chell has made me Quadrant Marine Recruiting Officer. Kyral has done a great job of recruiting people in the past. I will work with him and exchange information. It will not happen over night but we have agreed to make a basic new member's Package for distribution here on the IKAV GrandInquisitor. This will consist of a 1. KAG Guide Lines 2. Marine Guide Lines 3. Contact information 4. Suppliers and ReSource Guides...Fabric, Make up Supplies , Cons and such.

Where can I find Bat leh pendants? I would like to use these as a promotional incentive. Once a person recruits 5 members with all of the paperwork completed..They get one. I will make a place for enjoyment for myself in KAG. One way or another. I have had a number of ideas..just by watching and talking to people at this past weekend's Con. The IKAV GrandInquisitor host's the " Dead Tribble" Bar. I have this sick idea of Running a Live Action Role Playing Game at Cons. This would have a Klingon Themes, but other Aliens are invited to play as well. I just need to recruit volunteers to assist me with this. I will steal rules form other groups and use them in this plan of mine. Where there is a will, there is a way to make things work.

KAG will be fun for me if I enjoy it. The wedding and wet t shirt contest were fun at Galacticon. I am looking forward to making this a FUN club for me and other people. If I never get promoted again...I will not care...My success will be measured in FUN and not Rank.
