The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Book 1 of the Chronicles of Narnia (publishing order)
The adventures begin when the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, are sent to live with the Professor in his old mansion in England during World War II. One day when the children are exploring the house, Lucy discovers that the wardrobe in an upper room leads to another world. It turns out that this land is called Narnia, and that the land is under the spell of the evil White Witch, who has made it always winter and never Christmas. Edmund, who discovers the wardrobe soon after, meets the Witch and is deceived into believing that she is the Queen of Narnia and, at her insistence, decides to betray his brother and sisters into her hands, if he can. The only One who can save Narnia, and Edmund, is the true King, Aslan the Lion, the Son of the Emperor-over-Sea. And the only way he can do this is through a great sacrifice. . . . |
