*Saying Goodbye*

Finally, what the 3 aliens, posing as humans wanted had come to them. They  had found there home. First thanks to Michael they had found the 4th Alien, who had told them where there home was, then he was killed by an alien bounty hunter, which wasn't good. But despite all of that, they had found home, and in a few days were going to on a spaceship home, yes home. They were now all seniors in high school. They also had lives. Bording the ship and actually going home, wouldn't exactly be easy, in face it would be one of their hardest battles ever.

"I can't believe it" Liz Parker said. "I can't believe you actually leaving." She managed to say between sobs. She hugged her boyfriend for all he was worth. "What am I suppose to do without you? I mean we are meant to be together, and now you leaving to go back home, wherever that is, I mean Max, you can't leave me. I love you." Liz was now in full histerics. sobbing uncontrolably as Max Evans tried to comfort her.

"Liz, I love you too, you know that, but I mean, I've never been home before, and we've been wanting this all our lives. You know I want to stay here, and be with you. But this is my chance Liz, for home." Max said tears beggining to form in his eyes, but he held strong.

"I know Max, we've been together for 3 years now, how am I suppose to just let you go?" She asked fresh tears emerging from her red puffy eyes.

Max just hugged his girlfriend, never wanting to let go. "I don't know Liz, I just don't know" was his only answer. God knows the last thing he wanted to leave Liz, he loved Liz, and she loved him.

Meanwhile....

"Michael I cannot believe you are leaving me. I mean, first you come into my life, with all these powers, and your brooding face, and then your like this big cute boyfriend to me, and your leaving me? I don't see the fairness here?" Maria stated. She was so upset by this, she just couldn't control her anger. 'How could he leave me' She thought.

"Maria, would you just listen to me. I mean it's not like I want to leave you, I mean I do love you Maria, But I HAVE to go home. I'm different than you are. For you home is down the street. For me, home is a mystery, I've never been there, I don't know whats there, and I want to find out, but that doesn't mean I won't miss you, I mean for pete's sake Maria think about it. Home." Michael said. It's funny, how these two got together. One minute there biting each other's heads off, the next, they're kissing like no tommorrow. Since then, they've been inseparable...except when they get in fights.

Part 2

Liz and Maria walked into one of the shops in the Roswell Mall.

"Can you believe it, I mean Liz think about it. It's one thing when you break up with someone, you occasionally see them around, and you hear about them. But This, this is different. They are going to another universe! Why is it, when I find a guy that I really like, and I think I have a future with, they turn out to be an alien, life is not fair." Maria said. Inside she seemed more upset that anything. But inside you could tell it was tearing her apart.

Liz sighed. "I know, it is completley unfair. But if Max has to leave, then he has to leave. I can't make him stay here with me, because if there was a way to keep him here with me, lord knows I would try it. It's their decision though. No matter how hard we try, we can't keep them here." Liz shook her head. Wondering if the terrible pain that had crept up in her heart would ever go away. Just the thought of Max not being with her made her shiver in fright.

"Couldn't we chain then in your basement, or something?" Maria asked, half joking.

"They'd get out" Liz said with a laugh. Life certainly wouldn't be the same without the Aliens these two girls had come to love.

************

"So, Michael, do you think we can really go through with it? I mean leaving...them." Max asked as he looked around his room. Wondering if he were to leave, would he ever remember his room. He pondered this thought for a moment. How much of his life here in Roswell would he remember. Obviously Liz, but what about minor things, his locker, his room, the way the trees blew in the wind, and how the pavement on the streets were randomly cracked. What would he remember?

"Well man, in my head, I think he have to leave. I mean, if we don't we'll never get to see home. Is it worth it?" Michael had a brief image of Maria in his head. He wondered is his real home was worth Maria? Also he wondered how his simple horrid life, had become so complicated with a woman? Life's great questions that are never completly answered.

"Well I don't know about you, but I plan on spending as much time with Liz as I possibly can. So i'll see you later man." Max said as her heard Michael grumble a 'sure'. He was obviously thinking. On his way out the door, he bumped into Isabelle. "Hey Is" Max said passing her in the hallway.

"Well I can tell by your determination to get out of the house that your on your way to see Liz." Isabelle said with a smile. She laughed at how smitten her brother was with Liz. 'Why can't I find a guy who likes me as much as Max likes Liz, oh no difference, we're leaving here soon anyways.' She dismissed her thoughts and went into Max's room. Knowing that Michael was in there.

"Hey" She said as he was getting ready to leave.

"Um, Hi Isabelle, I really should go, I'm going to surprise Maria at the Crashdown. Spend some time with her. You know, before we leave." He said, hoping Isabelle wouldn't keep him long.

"Oh, fine, leave me with nothing to do." She said with annoyance.

"Ok bye!" Michael said as her left the room.

Isabelle walked into her room mumbling. "That is the rudest person, I don't know what Maria see's in him?" 'Oh well' She dismissed her thoughts as she turned on her radio.

"Max, hi!" Liz said as she closed the door to her house, and walked down the steps with him.

"Hey, come here, I want to show you something, someplace." Max said with excitment in his eyes." He led Her into his jeep, and they took off.

Awhile later, they arrived at a secluded hilltop. Where you had a front row view of the stars. "Max, this place is incredible." Liz said. "Max, tell me you won't leave, please?" Liz pleaded with him in the look she gave him. His heart melted into a million pieces.

***************

"Mike? What are you doing here?" Maria asked, pleasantly surprised by her boyfriend showing up. She hadn't expected to see him tonight.

"Well I came to see you!" He said giving her one of his crooked smiles, and kissing her lightly.

"I'm taking a break!!" She screamed into the back room as they sat in an empty booth. "So whats up?" She asked.

"Well I just wanted to see you." He said plainly. He looked into her eyes, and he didn't know how he was ever going to walk upon the spaceship, and leave her forever.

"Michael, I don't know how I'm going to do this, I don't know how I'm going to be able to let you go." She said tears forming in her eyes.

"Me neither Maria, me neither." Was all he said, as he got up from his side of the booth, and sat next to her. He gave her a loving hug, they knew it was going to be one of the hardest things in there life, saying good-bye.

Part 3

Liz and Max were at the town park. Max was pushing Liz on a swingset.

"You know its funny Max. I know your leaving tommorow, and yet I still feel as if we have our whole live's to spend together. Like your not really going to leave me." Max stopped pushing her, and let the swing come to a complete stop.

Liz turned around to face him. He gave her a meak smile. "Liz, I'll never leave you. I've greatest time with you here on earth. Nothing could ever make me forget this, all of this. As much as I'd give anything to stay here and be with you, I really should get home to pack." Max said as Liz looked towards the ground.

"I know" Was all she said. He could tell it broke her heart to know that He wasn't going to be around anymore.

'How am I going to be able to get out of this one?' Max thought to himsself. He grabbed her hand and started walking towards the street smiling at her, yet inside he was miserable.

Meanwhile:::

"You are such a jerk" Maria said laughing at Michael. They were at their usual joke/insult type of conversation. Where they'd insult each other, kiss, and then insult each other again.

"Well I may be a jerk, but at least i'm a cute jerk" He said proudly.

Maria raised an eyebrow at this. "I wouldn't have such a high opponion of myself if I were you"

"Well If you were me, then I wouldn't be dating you, because you'd be a pretty ugly girl." Michael said before he kissed her.

It was about 9 o'clock when this was happening.

Isabelle was in her room packing.

"Ok Make-up, check. Hair brush, combs etc...Check, creams, lotions, and body oils and powders, check, Toothbr--" She heard the door to the house close and knew somone just got home.

"Hey Iz" Max said as he gloomily walked into his room. Isabelle stood there and look at where he had just walked by in confusion.

She put her cosmetics down on her bed and went into his room. "Hey Max, whats up your butt? Oh wait let me guess, your finding it hard to leave Liz, aren't you?" She asked as she sat on his bed where he was lying down.

"I honestly didn't think we'd get to go home this quickly. It's like this unplanned tornado just stormed into my life, and its taking us all with it, and leaving Liz on her own. I mean I don't want to leave her. I don't want to leave here." He said putting his hands on his head.

"Max your not telling me your staying are you?" Isabelle asked partly in shock

"No, i'm coming, just not with pleasure." Max said "Not at all"

Part 4

'A way to get out of it, a way to get out of it, how can I get out of this.' Max thought as he paced his room. The past few days he had been trying to figure out how to get out of this "For God Sakes, we're suppose to leave in 38 hours!" Max said outloud, letting his frustration getting the best of him.

"So your thinking about it also" Michael said as he walzed into Max's room and sat on his bed. "yeah I've been thinking about it too. I mean leaving earth. It's been my one wish since..well since I can remember. My life was fine until Maria entered it, and made me have all these...these...stupid feelings." He said. Then he sighed. Obviously he was thinking about Maria again.

"Man, hey it's natural. I feel the same way about Liz, sorta. I've always known I liked her. Ever since I saw her. It was like Love At First Sight. Me and her actually dating and her returning my feelings for her, its like a dream come true." Max said, dazed.

"Wow, Maxamillion, don't go all fluffy on me." He said as he got up and walked around Max's room, picking up various objects and putting them down again. "So do you think we should stay, leave, what do you think. I mean I want to stay with Maria, but I know I have to leave. Its my chance to leave. I have to take it. And If I go, then I would really want you to come too man."

Max looked at him. "I know you would, I know."

********************

"Liz how can you be so blaise about this." Maria asked her friend while waiting tables. "I mean, what if something happens to them on their way...home, what if there ship crashes, and burns, and and I never see Michael again, that is if he'll return to me, maybe he'll meet some drop dead gorgeous babe from his planet, and forget all about me, or realize that he never actually liked me at all, and --" Maria was babling, alot. She was cut off by Liz.

"Maria, be quiet, and stop talking for 2 seconds! We have no control over thier lives. If they realize they need to leave, then they will. What happens after that is up to them. ::Sigh::." Liz stares off into space, "Even if what is happening isn't scientific, its still happening." Maria nodded in agreement, and without another word said they continued drying off tables and taking orders.

********************

"Just one....one more push ....push and There!! Finally it's closed." Isabelle gasped as she finally closed her last suitcase which was full of clothes and other do-dads. Max walked into her room and stopped and stared at her.

"What?" She asked. He still stared at her. "I'm all done packing, how about you.?" She asked giddily. She was so obviously happy about there departure which was now, only 20 hours away.

"Yeah, just about. I need a few more thing in my bag and i'm all set. Notice I said the word BAG not BAGS, unlike you I only have one." He said sarcastically.

"What? Do you think 4 bags is too much?" She asked innocently.

"Oh no not at all" Max laughed and left, walking downstairs.

Part 5

Max stood in his room staring at his mirro, 'After shave? no after shave? maybe after shave?' He was trying to decide whether or not to put on aftershave for his big last date with Liz. He pondered his thoughts for a moment. 'This is the last time, I'll be getting read to go out with Liz, the last time I wonder whether to wear jeans or khacki's.' If there was one thing wrong with Max, it was that he remenisced too much. He was always thinking of better times, happy times, or sadder times. Now he was thinking of happier times.

A 1/2 hour later he arrived at Liz's doorstep. She answered the door. "Hey Max." She looked at him with longing. Even though he hadn't left yet. She knew where this whole this was going. And she didn't like it. She didn't like it one bit.

"Are you ready?" He asked in a voice, not a happy voice. But only sound coming from his mouth.

"No." She said. Yet she smiled and took his hand as he led her out of the Crashdown and to his car.

*******************************

"Oh Your going down, oh your dead, your dead, I am so going to kill you, die, why won't you die!?" Maria shreaked as she rapidly pushed the buttons on the Nintendo 64 controler.

"Over my dead body" Michael said as he tried to beat her in the game they were playing.

"I can arrange for that to happed...Oh nono, No you don't oh no, damn you!" Maria threw her controller towards the wall.

"Haha, Loser!" Michael was gloating very obviously.

"Goodie for you, you won. Again" She had absolutley no congratulations in her voice. 'Damn he won 3 times in a row.' She thought.

"That's because you suck." He said getting up and doing a little victory dance around Maria's living room. "Whoop there ther'is" He sang.

"Oh please don't make me gag."

"Poor sport. Come on, we'll play another round. Maybe this time I'll let you win." He gave Maria one of his crooked smiles.

"Mike, seriously, has it occured to you that your leaving the planet earth in about 15 hours?" Maria asked, trying to get him on a serious level.

"Yeah, I know Maria, I know! Max, Isabelle and I leave in 15 hours. Why can't me and you just have some 'us' time. Like we always used to. Before we knew we were ever going 'home'. I mean, I just want to spend all the time I have available right now with you."

Maria laughed at Michael suddenly getting all mushy mushy. "Wait I have a suprise for you." Maria exclaim, while getting off the floor. She head for the kitchen and brought back some chocolate cake. "Consider this a 'going away and leaving me cake'" They both laughed.

"Thats great, but you know I won't eat this witho--" before he coule even finish his sentance she held up a bottle of tabasco sauce.

"Baby, your the greatest." He said in one of his horrible accents. He leaned over and hugged Maria as well as kissed her.

"I know, I know, No applause, just throw money." Maria said getting some napkins and plates.

********************

"Mmmmm, I like this." Liz said. Currently they were in the backseat of Max's jeep. Well they started out in the front seats, making out. Then they found it more comfortable in the back seat. After kissing a long, long time, they just stayed wrapped up in each others arms, watching the sky.

Secretly Liz was cursing the sky. She cursed it for taking Max away soon. She cursed it for her soon-to-be broken heart. And the empty void that will soon replace most of her heart.

At that same time Max cursed the sky. He cursed it for making him alien, instead of human, for taking him away from his soulmate, and his one true love.

"I love you Liz." Max said to her. Even though it wasn't their first time saying that to each other, he still felt like he needed to say that. Or if he didn't tell her he loved her, then she would never know how he felt.

"I love you too Max."

Liz shivered a bit, and Max held her closer. Afraid that if he let her go. She would dissapear, and so would he.

"So, is this all." Michael said as he gazed around Max's room. "Is this your whole life and everything in it?" He said.

"No, its not my whole life and everything in it, these are my material things, things that could be replaced. The one thing I'm leaving are the broken pieces to my heart." Max stared at 2 bags around his room.

"Alright Shakespeare, you ready?" Michael saw the look on Max's face and took it as his cue to go bug Isabelle. Max looked around his room, and sighed a few times. Finally he started to walk towards his closet. He reached up on the top shelf and pulled out a picture. It was a picture of him and Liz, about a month after they started dating, they were covered in Ketchup and Mustard and Salt, at the Crashdown one night, after the store closed and it was only the two of them there.

::FLASHBACK SCENE::

"Hey Max, Pass me the ketchup." Liz asked as she was cleaning the table Max was sitting at. The Crashdown was closed for the day, only Max and Liz were there. Max grabbed the bottle a little too hard and the ketchup squeezed all over Liz.

"Oh my God, Liz i'm so sorry." Max said, desperatley trying to cover up his laughter, unfortunatley he failed.

"Oh, so Mr. Evans you think your soo funny. We'll see about that." She grabbed the mustard and squeezed it on his head. From there it was total chaos. First it was ketchup and mustard. Then Max grabbed the salt and started pouring it on Liz.

Afterwards they were completley doused in condiments, including salt and pepper and straws. Liz sat in Max's lap while you could barley see their clothes or skin because the ketchup and mustard covered them. Max kissed Liz, "mmm you taste like ketchup" Liz told him. "Well you, taste like a salty mustard to me." They both broke out in laughter.

Liz got off of Max and started walking to the backroom. "Wait here!" She told him.

She returned with her camera. "I want to remember this day for years to come, and someday when we're grey and old, we'll look back and laugh about this." Liz placed the camera on one of the tables and set it for auto. "You better help me clean this place up!" Liz said right before the camera flashed.

::End of Flashback::

Max just stared off into space. 'What I wouldn't give to have that day come back to me.' He thought in his head. He grabbed his bags and headed out to place them in his car.

He met Iz and Michael out there. Already waiting for him. "Lets go" Max said as they hopped in the car.

*************************************************************

Meanwhile....

"So what movie do you wanna see?" Liz looked at the videos that Maria had rented for that night, "City of Angels, Titanic, and Message In a Bottle.....Maria these are all movies where somebody's lover dies somewhere in the movie." Liz looked at Maria in dispair.

"So..." She said. Maria sat on her couch looking depressed and teary eyed. Liz sat next next to her and hugged her.

"I'm going to miss them too, I mean I'm dealing it the only way I know how, to not think about it." Liz stated as her she wiped the tears away from Maria's eyes with a tissue as new teards formed in her own eyes with her longing for Max.

"You know if you want to, I mean if your up for it, we just might get to see them take off, maybe it will help you, heal?" Liz suggested.

Maria said nothing but quickly got up, grabbed her keys, and headed out to her car with Liz right beside her.

20 Minutes later.....

Liz and Maria walked to where the ship had already left. You could obviously see the imprint it left in the dirt of the New Mexico land. It was a very large craft. "It left." Maria said. It was all she could say.

"I know." Liz told her friend, trying to comprehend what was happening.

"He's gone, Max is gone." She desperatley was trying to convince herself that it was true. She walked up beside Maria and hugged her. They took a few steps around the area where the large craft once occupied.

"Hey there, don't cry." A voice called out from one of the tree's.

Liz's head shot up and looked around. She saw Max walk out from behind a tree with his bag's in his hands. He walked over to her and just stood right before her.

This took Liz a few minutes to comprehend. "Wha-- Why? Huh? Where? Whe--?" Liz was stupified.

"I couldn't do it. I walked aboard and realized I couldn't do it. I didn't want to do it. Whatever life that is up there, I couldn't say good-bye to the one most important thing in my life. You." Not wanting to wait any longer Liz kissed Max, proving she wasn't imagining things.

Maria looked at the two with jealousy and sorrow and happiness. She envied what they had, wondering how Michael could've left her and yet Max couldn't have left Liz.

Suddenly a hand turned Maria around. "Ditto to everything that Max said to Liz" He smiled.

"Michael." In her head that was a complete sentence. Michael.

"Hey, you weren't crying over me, where you?" Michael said noticing the redness around Maria's eyes.

"No, no of coarse not, you? Please. No it's um, my alergies, yeah they kick in sometimes, and yeah, it's alergies." Maria said.

"Oh yeah, uh huh, ok then." Michael laughed at her, and Maria followed.

Finally Isabelle walked out and saw the two couples gawking at each other. "Oh please!" She said. "This is what I didn't go home for. Lucky me." She said rolling her eyes and sighing. "Super for me" She said with utter and complete sarcasim.
