Powers: Shade is telekinetic, able to fly and move almost any object by using her mental fields. She can also become invisible by making an opaque 'reflective' telekinetic shell around her body.

History: Adrienne was the product of her father's deliberate liaison with a mutant woman. General Conrad Poe wanted to establish a military program to turn children with mutant gifts into assassins and laboratory rats, and Adrienne was his prototype. From an early age, Adrienne remained incarcerated in a top-secret facility in Virginia. She was subjected to harsh mental and physical conditioning, and a variety of cruel experiments designed to test the limits of her mutation. Her own father supervised her transformation into the perfect weapon, and Adrienne soon grew to know no emotion but hate.

During her time in Langley, Adrienne became friends with Darien Lensherr, who was under the impression that she was a mutant criminal who was being held prisoner. He had no idea about her relationship to General POE, and Adrienne never told him for fear of bringing even harsher punishment down on herself. When a grenade went off in Adrienne's face during a training exercise, she was blinded, and General Poe gave up his dream of making his daughter the first perfect mutant assassin and was planning to send her to a lab to be experimented on for the rest of her days. Adrienne, however, had no intention of being subjected to any more torture, and she devised new 'eyes' for herself in the form of telekinetic fields that were set to reflect the light and act as her retinas. Adrienne's telekinetic gift was obviously extreme, and her father kept her at Langley.

A year after the accident, Darien Lensherr found out what was really going on in Poe's program, and he left in disgust. Adrienne, who had considered Darien her only ally, was crushed that he hadn't taken her with him, and she vowed to find her own way out and have her revenge. Using her training as an assassin and her mastery of her mutant abilities, she escaped the Langley prison and made her way to New York City. There she met up with other disillusioned young mutants, including the insane Executor, and founded the Eclipse Army to revenge herself against the world at large.
