POWERS: Atom controls the subatomic particles of the universe. He can manipulate them in countless ways, from disintegrating steel walls to manipulating electrons so he can fly. Atom's power is truly boundless.

HISTORY: The human form of Atom is not his true one - Atom is actually a genetically engineered alien weapon, a sentient cell that grafts itself to the brain stem of a human host and gives that host, if they are a mutant, unimagined power. The Atom Cell's first host on Earth was Remy LeBeau, the mutant known as Gambit, and under the cell's control he took the name Atom and began to systematically decimate the planet. Atom built a base on the moon and held the world hostage, destroying another chunk of land every hour with his awesome powers until the world agreed to surrender to his control. His base was destroyed when the Friends of Humanity launched several nuclear warheads at the moon. The X-Women believed that Atom had perished in the attack along with Wolverine, whom he had captured. In reality, the part of Remy's consciousness that still survived had been swayed by Wolverine, and Atom created a temporal rift and transported her back to earth seconds before the missiles hit. Atom's body fell back to earth, protected by a shield that he had made with his powers, but he was greatly weakened and captured by Neo-X, a copycat Weapon X program run by the former head doctor. Neo-X extracted the Atom Cell from Gambit's body and attempted to implant it into Wolverine, but Logan escaped and destroyed the lab. Remy was rescued and as a result of being possessed by the Atom Cell gained control over his latent telepathic abilities.
