HISTORY: The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants was first brought to inception by Magneto around the same time as Charles Xavier formed the X-Women. The membership and leadership has changed many times over the years, but the goal has always been the same: power to mutants, no matter how violent or how high the cost. The Brotherhood and the X-Women clashed repeatedly under Magneto's leadership, but when he was killed by Wolverine and Joseph took his place, severing all ties with the group, the mutant terrorist Mystique took up the mantle of leader and pushed the group in a new direction. She recruited the best that mutant terrorists had to offer and set about running the group for profit and power - no longer for mutant supremacy. The new roster included the nimble-tongued and high-jumping Toad, seismic manipulator Avalanche, the illusion-casting former member of the Hellfire Club Lady Mastermind, the enormous, unstoppable Blob, and the firestarter Pyro. Mystique herself rounded out the squad with her shapeshifting abilities. The group ran smoothly under Mystique's leadership, but not without it's crises. Pyro defected to the X-Women after a particularly vicious series of battles, and Blob was killed by an anti-mutant bomber. At first suspecting the X-Women of the hit, Mystique and the Brotherhood wound up their allies when it became apparent that a mutant-hating terrorist was on the lose. They helped the team trap James Perish, former ally of X-Cutioner, who held all mutants responsible for the death of his wife. Toad killed Perish, and Avalanche and Beast diffused his last and biggest bomb. Not allies but no longer enemies, the Brotherhood took their leave of the X-Women to continue their terrorist activities on a lower profile. |
