HISTORY: Zach is sensitive to ultraviolet light, so he rarely appears in daytime. That, along with his mutant abilities and small set of fangs, have given rise to many rumors of him being a vampire. Zach was born in Romania to a Romanian mother and American father. His mother died when he was very young, and he emigrated to the United States with his father, who abandoned him when he realized Zach was a mutant. Nothing is known about Zach's past before he joined the X-Women. Zach came to the team just after Wolverine had been expelled by Cyclops for murdering a member of the Friends of Humanity. He filled Wolverine's slot, and proved himself in the team's first battle against Deus Ex and Potentia, mutant twins who wished to enslave the X-Women. Eventually, the X-Women, none too happy with Cyclops's command decision to kick Wolverine off the team, deposed her as leader and appointed Zach in the face of the twin's growing threat. Zach proved a harsh taskmaster, taking the team to new levels in their training and tactics. Eventually, the team defeated the twins and their ally Masque under his leadership, and Zach vanished into the night from which he came, leaving more questions than when he arrived.
