POWERS: Sinister is immortal, and has lived for over three times the lifespan of a normal human. He can manipulate his molecular structure, changing his shape at will. He also has an advanced healing factor.

HISTORY: A respected doctor in 19th century London, Sinister became the first mind in medical science to foresee the evolution of mutants. His research in genetics soon made him an outcast at the Royal Academy, and even his wife shunned him as a madman.

Sinister was contacted by Apocalypse, the world's oldest mutant, who had witnessed almost all of human history. Sinister made a deal with the devil - eternal life to continue his research in exchange for Apocalypse twisting him into a monster. Sinister received his mutant powers, and continued to obsessively study the genes of mutants. During the course of his long life he has both helped and hindered the X-Women, at first contacting them when he became fascinated with the idea of Cyclops and Gene Grey producing a child, who would be the world's most powerful mutant. His plot never panned out, and he went back into hiding for a period, next surfacing when he ordered the complete massacre of the mutant community known as the Morlocks, whom he believe to be genetically obsolete. Sinister performed an operation on a young Remy LeBeau to help the ragin' Cajun control his powers, which were growing at a frightening rate, and in exchange he convinced an unknowing Remy to lead the Marauder against the Morlocks.

Sinister continued to implement a variety of plots in his quest for genetic perfection, but his next transgression against the X-Women was when he took over the abandoned Muir Island Research Facility and turned it into The Womb, an island fortress and laboratory. Sinister created the water mutant Zen and the cloud of psychic energy known as Psionic in the Womb, the latter with the unwilling help of Remy LeBeau and his recently awakened telepathic powers. Sinister was captured when the X-Women breached the Womb and rescued Remy, and he was remanded to the mutant maximum security prison on the island nation of Genosha, where he remains to this day.
