POWERS: A toad in powers as well as name, Moira has extra muscles in her legs that allow her to leap great distances vertically and horizontally and deliver a crushing kick nearly three times the strength of a normal human's. She has an eight-foot-long prehensile tongue, which can be retracted to a normal length, and can spit toxic slime that paralyzes her target. Moira's spine is also extra-flexible, allowing her to spend most of her time crouched without injury.
WEAPONS: None. Toad often makes use of her martial arts skills in battle.
HISTORY: Raise in a Scottish orphanage, Moira Toynbee was an ugly, unremarkable child who was mercilessly picked on by other children for her small stature and the green cast of her skin. She grew up wanting for even the smallest amount of affection or attention, and as an adult she willingly served anyone who appeared to care for her. Toad spent most of her young adult life as Magneto's lackey with his original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Never accepted by the other members of the Brotherhood and treated as little more than a slave by Magneto, Toad was none the less devoted to the master of magnetism, and laid down her life several times in his defense. When Magneto was killed by Wolverine in their last battle on Genosha, Toad swore her revenge against the feral woman. Working as a freelancer with various mercenary groups, Toad was recruited by Neo-X, a descendant of the old Weapon X program, to infiltrate and lure the X-Women to Neo-X's lab. Neo-X's goal: implant the alien Atom Cell into Wolverine, finally fulfilling her destiny as a superpowered assassin. Seeing a golden opportunity for vengeance, Toad took the job. The X-Women were wise to her deception, however, and Toad appeared to perish when Wolverine escaped the Neo-X labs and severed her head with a piece of lab equipment. Toad had survived Wolverine's attack, but was mortally wounded. Mr. Sinister found her and offered to save her life in return for a few 'modifications' to her mutant powers. Toad accepted, and Sinister transported her to the Womb, his island fortress off the coast of Scotland. Toad's powers became greatly increased, but she was betrayed by Sinister when he tried to insert a controlling device into her neck, making her a slave to his will. Finally overcoming her deeply ingrained subservient behavior, Toad put up a fight against Sinister and fled the lab when the X-Women destroyed it. Toad reenlisted in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants under Mystique's rule, becoming one of her most valued and skilled operatives. No longer seeking her revenge against the X-Women, Toad was none the less not completely happy. She clashed with fellow Brotherhood member Pyro, feeling that the happy-go-lucky Aussie was a liability to the team. It was Toad who arranged for the X-Women to capture and imprison Pyro, and Moira was happy that when Pyro was released, she defected to the side of the white hats. Pyro and Toad were reunited, along with the rest of the Brotherhood and the X-Women, when mad bomber James Perish killed Blob with one of his explosives. Toad found herself fighting alongside the very people she had been sworn to hate, and she performed with skill and cunning befitting a survivor such as herself.
