POWERS: Zen is an 'elemental' mutant created by Mr. Sinister. His body is composed entirely of water molecules, enabling him to shapeshift, vary his size and strength at will and granting him limited control over a body of water. Zen can also freeze the molecules in his body and the water around him, but superheating will cause him to evaporate.

HISTORY: When the genetic research facility at Muir Island shut down following the death of head doctor Moira MacTaggart, the island lay defunct for several years before it was chosen as a new base by the mutant 'genetic engineer' Mr. Sinister. Sinister used Muir Island's labs to create a new breed of mutant - one made entirely of a particular element, with no human cells. Zen was his first success. Composed entirely of water molecules, Zen was immune to bullets, blows and mind control, and could infiltrate most facilities at will. Zen's first mission was to dispose of the X-Women in a trap laid by Mr. Sinister, but the team was rescued by the cosmic entity Raven and Zen was forced to follow them to Westchester and try again. He attacked and nearly drowned X-Woman Cyclops, but he was superheated and partially evaporated by her teammates. Zen disappeared when Mr. Sinister was sent to the mutant maximum security prison on Genosha, but he is still at large and the X-Women still consider him a danger.
