QUALITY ASSURANCE OF APPLICATORS

1. The mechanical characteristics of all applicators should be checked and, all applicators should have closed ends.
Any mechanical codes, which are intended to force the connection of particular applicators to particular channels,
should be verified. The placement of any internal shields should be checked radiographically.

2. Combining a radiograph of the dummies with an autoradiograph of the source should check the correspondence of source
dwell positions to dummy sources used for treatment planning.

3. All applicators must be sufficiently long so that the advancing source does not hit the end of the applicator before
reaching the first programmed position. 6
