For those of you who don't know, I work now. That is part of the reason why I haven't been updating this page. Hmm...so far I remain active, yet delayed. Enlightenment begins now: Time is not enough...more zen to come soon... The cult like nature of such things as FCA (for those of you so far out of school to remember, it is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes) has become glaringly apparent. The other day, I was approached by some stereotypical cheerleader type wearing pro-FCA clothing and covered from head to toe in permanent marker writings of "Wildcats for Christ" and "Join God's team" among other things. Horrid I would say, how much more cult-like could you get? And not to mention turning the girl into a walking billboard. After a few remarks by myself and others, the evangelist left in a hurry. Later that day, I overheard someone being berated for not "coming to the meeting last night". Come on now folks, giving someone a hard time because they couldn't be some where sounds a lot like brain washing.
Brain washing is the exact idea behind this all. These preachers and "holy" coaches have these poor saps believing they are the oppressed ones. In an effort to study the subversivness of this cult club, I attended one meeting (albeit remaing far away from the rest) and was suprised to hear that the "Christian youth are being oppressed and are few in number". What could be farther from the truth? I don't exactly hear pagans going around with laurels, candles, ankhs, or whatever one wants to use and beating people over the head in an effort to convert them to either "the true path" or "the guiding light of (insert deity)". Sigh.....
