SEGA Dreamcast Alien Front Online Review
Alien Front Online
Alien Front Online is one of those games that you really don't know what to expect from. Will you get great gameplay with bad graphics? Great Graphics and story but a horrible story line? Here is what you get. The story line is easily understandable and the graphics are great. Gameplay is stable also. So do you have a perfect game on your hands? Far from it. Alien Front Online is a fun and intriguing game equipped with online play and voice chatting during gameplay. While everything may seem nice, but the game moves soooo slow. It's not that the frame rate is bad because that is remarkably high. I guess that it's just the fact that Tanks move slow. But do the alien ships have to move at the same speed? If this game had faster, more fluent game play, and did not always move at the same inching speed, we would be going some where. Another thing that this game needs is a larger variety of vehicles and stages. Sure, battling it out in the great cities of Washington D.C., Tokyo, and others is great. But eventually you will get tired of blowing down the monument. There are only three U.S tanks to choose from, and there are three Alien ships to choose from. Where are the scouts? Planes? Different types of artillery? Well, you won't find them in this game. The major high point is the voice chatting online. "But I don't have a microphone". Don't worry, there is one packed with the game, and all for a low price of $29.99. Even if you're not into these types of games Alien Front Online is well worth the investment. The voice chatting feature is about as good as you would expect over a 56k modem that is running a highly insane game at the same time as sending your message. It works by having the user press the Y-button (Default), on their controller. The computer will then recognize that you want to say something, and will give you about 5 seconds to speak. you message is then delivered in voice to everyone else in the game within 2 seconds max. Pretty cool for a first effort.
Graphics: 9.0 (The game looks about as good as any DC game)
Sounds: 10.0 (Voice chatting makes this game sound alot clearer...)
Game play: 7.5 (Slow tanks can slow down the score)
Overall: 8.5 (With 8 players in a game at once, it is well worth buying)
