SEGA Dreamcast Shenmue II Preview

Could The Legacy End Here?

Shenmue II

It has been approximately two years since Sega surprised everyone with its highly anticipated Shenmue title. While most gamers were expecting something on the line of the later released Bouncer game for PS2, they got much, much more. Stunning graphics, excellent gameplay, and a story line that will have you hooked for ages. When first announced, the Dreamcast was in full swing coming off of a very impressive launch on 9/9/99. There were to be a total of 6 chapters to Shenmue, all linking into the next and following through with the story. Since the first game in the series was released, the Dreamcast has taken a huge plunge towards the "deader end" of the market. Thus, the question arises as to what exactly will happen to the other 5 chapters in the game? As of now, Sega has not announced the cancellation of any of the six chapters. However there is rumor that after the Dreamcast is put to rest, the remainder of the titles will be released on other systems. All after the second chapter. That's right, Shenmue II has indeed been announced for a definate release on Dreamcast sometime in November 2001. Gamers will have to just wait and see if this is the last to be on Dreamcast when they beat the game.

Shenmue II picks up where the first game left off. Ryo, a young man who witnessed his father's death and is seeking revenge took of after Lan Di (His father's killer). This game will take you to the great world of China, where you will explore Aberdeen, Kowloon, Wan Chai, and Guilin. During his journey, Ryo finally meets up with Ling Sha Hua (The girl who haunted his dreams in the first game). What you can expect from Shenmue II is as follows: Slightly improved graphics, (expecially of background characters); A more challenging QTE system; New characters; Better voice overs; More People on screen at once; Larger Towns; New Arcade Games; A Map Feature to prevent you from getting lost; The ability to skip long waits; Along with many, many other new features and surprises. If that isn't enough to persuade you, then nothing is.

SEGA OF AMERICA HAS RELEASED A STATEMENT CONFIRMING THE CANCELLATION OF SHENMUE 2 IN THE U.S. THE GAME WILL STILL LAUNCH IN JAPAN AS WELL AS EUROPE. ALSO, AN X-BOX VERSION OF THE GAME IS PLANNED FOR LATE 2002.
