X - MEN
You think you have to be some kind of Scifi, X-men fanatic to enjoy this one? I don't think so. Actually, you don't need to know anything about The X-Men to go in, see the movie, and not want your money back. This is possible because in the movie they explain each character, and what they are about so that even new-comers to the scifi genre can jump right into the action. X-Men: The Movie is basically a run-off from the successful comic book series by Marvel. In the comics, the X-Men are a group of genetic mutants who have supernatural abilities. Together, they fight under the supervision of Professor Charles Xavier, (played by Patrick Stewart in the movie). The difference between the movie and the comic? None really. It is like the movie was just a newer, more realistic version of the comic book series. When the movie first kicks off it explains Magneto's (one of the mutants) capabilities and basically what keeps him going. Too bad he was a bad guy. The mutants are all being hunted down by the government, and they story begins. Down the line, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Rogue (Anna Paguin) meet and bond in a way that will keep you wondering about them throughout the remainder of the movie. While the Magneto works to take over the world, it is the job of the X-Men to make sure he does not succeed. Although this movie doesn't seem to run straight through like most others, (Some scenes seemed like they could be swapped with others without having the story change at all), The special effects make up for the lack of order in the story line. Halle Berry who played the role of Storm, did a magnificent job of keeping the movie on ends. Well, atleast in the scenes that she was in. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) also seemed to pop up only every now and then. The one person who did seem to always get put into the important parts would be none other than Rebecca Stamos who plays the role of Mystique. Her job? Runs around and turn into other people. Oh yeah, and have a nice fight scene with Wolverine. The Movie as a whole was entertaining, but not what I hoped it would be.
