"Feeling Peckish Pt. 4"
Rebecca Bradstreet (c) 2000

"I'm 5,000 years old.  Well, I was 4,758 February 1st."  Lori gave him a cautious grin.

"I thought I told you I didn't care how old you are?"  Face shook his head with a rueful smile.

"You did, but you've come this far you should know."  Lori leaned forward and undid the last of his shirt buttons.

"Anything *else* I should know?"  Face put his hands on her waist, keeping the slender space between them.

"If you want me, if you truly want to know me, let me taste you."  Even whispered soft and low Face could here the need in her voice.

"Taste me?  You mean bite me?!"  Suddenly the little silver cross was a weight that pressed its chain against Face's neck.

Yes...no...not like you think.  I don't want to drink deep of you leave you swooning.  I just want a taste, just a moment of...you."  She muddled her words and her meaning, trying to explain to Face something she was use to simply feeling.

"What...what will happen to me?  You won't...won't make me a vampire...will you?"  He tried to understand, to follow the feelings he could see roiling in her eyes.

"Oh no!  No, Face!  I won't make you a vampire, I won't hurt you!"  Lori pulled away from him, fear and hurt in her voice.

He pulled her back to him, encircled her in his arms, "Then what will happen?"

"I'll bite you, taste you, and we'll be linked for that moment.  For that moment we'll know things about each other it would take a lifetime to learn.  It won't hurt you won't change you...it'll just let you know me.  It'll just let us know each other."  She looked at him with her ancient eyes, and he wanted to know everything he could about her.

"Then..."  Face took the little silver cross off, and held it between them cupped in his hands.

"Oh, Face."  Lori's smile was wide and warm, but there was something in her tone that left Face feeling like a backward child.  He didn't have to wonder about the sound long.  She took the cross from his hands and put it back around his neck.

"Not like that."  Lori shook her head, her red curls bouncing, green eyes laughing.  She kissed his lips, his jaw line, his throat.  She slid his shirt off his shoulders, away from the cross's silver chain.  Lori froze once more.  Face put his hands over hers.  This time she was caught by the sight of the bruises on Face's shoulders.  "No more words," he told her in a voice cool and firm.

Lori nodded.  She leaned forward kissing lightly over his bruises, while she slipped the belt from his pants.  He pulled the pandas up over her head, ran his hands down her sides as she unbuttoned his pants.  Lori stood up, stepped away from Face, away from the bed.  Face followed her and they shed their remaining clothes.  They stood silently, their eyes locked for a moment, then Lori moved back to the bed.  She lay her head down on the pillows, her red hair framing her face, her green eyes sparkling.  Lori asked, "No more words?"

"No more words."  Face repeated, stepping back to the bed.  He sat on the edge of it for a moment, taking in the sight of her pale body stretched out on the bed, her green eyes following him -- waiting for him.  Then he climbed into the bed, onto Lori.  They made love long and passionately, slow and carefully.  Face marveled at Lori's strength and gentleness.  Lori marveled at the warmth of Face's breath, and the smell of Face's skin.  Each moment, each breath, held such wonder and such joy for them that fullness wasn't a moment they raced to but one that crept up upon them.

//Now!  Now I will taste you link us!  Now you will know me Templeton Peck!//  Lori thought, as she took her shallow bite, her simple swallow, that wasn't simple at all.  If every movement and moment of their love making had been a slow and gentle exploration, then the link that rose between them for that one moment was the sunburst of answering revelation.  Lori knew Face, knew a scattering of memories from his earliest childhood to the moment just before she bit him.  Face knew Lori, knew how old she was not just as numbers but as memories.  He spun lost in her memories for one timeless moment.

Then it all began to fade, the heat between their bodies, and the memories whirling through their minds.  Face slid down to lie next to Lori, to wrap his arms around her and breathe in the smell of her hair.  She placed her head on his chest to listen to the sound of his heart.  The memories were fading, most of them would fade away, but Lori tried to pick the ones she would hold onto.  She could pick.  It'd been centuries since she'd had a moment like this, but she remembered what she could do in it.  She would remember where he came from, and who was important to him.  Most of all she would remember that he had felt no fear when she bit, no surprise, only joy that she was letting him into her mind.

Now Face understood the feelings she hadn't been able to explain.  He knew how much he meant to her, how time wore at her, and how he could make her green eyes smile.  He didn't know how long he would remember it all, didn't know how to sift through it all, but he tried to hold on to her, to the knowledge of her core.  He tried to remember exactly who this woman was that he loved.  And he did love her, if he'd had any remaining doubts when their bodies touched they'd vanished when their minds did.  He loved her, and the team needed her.  They still had to get Murdock back.

"Nobody knows the troubles I've seen.  No, no, no!  Oh, swing low sweet chariot.  Bad idea.  'Play, ssing, enjoy yourself handsome musician.  It'ss your talent I'm sselling.  Only don't think about escape.'  Why ever would I think about escape?"  Joshua Tremble grumbled to himself in his cell at Sheila Sobek's "human farm".  He might have felt more inspired to plot escape if he had some idea of *where* he was, and some idea *if* there was anyone to escape with him.

"Hey this straight jacket isn't my color at all!  Is it Billy?"  Murdock had a variety of things he could have been worrying about.  Did Sobek actually let Face go?  Was she planning on making Murdock a permanent member of her "farm"?  Was he missing apple turnover night at the VA?  Since he couldn't get the answers to any of those questions in the cell she'd dumped him in, he was settling for grumbling about the straight jacket she'd put him in to Billy.  That and wondering how many other "cows" there were in her cells.

"Sweet chariot?  Hey kid you know any of Teddy Bear Picnic?"  Murdock called out to the voice he heard from the next cell, or at least he thought he'd heard from the next cell.  Sobek had said she was only taking a little of his blood, but since she'd followed the needles with a straight jacket the possibility of her having done other things did exist.

"Sure man!  What's your name?  How long you been here?  Sorry!  I'm getting kind of bored and stir crazy in here."  Josh played a little of Teddy Bear Picnic for the new voice in the cell block.

"I know about crazy.  Name's H.M. Murdock.  Sobek only flew me in a few days ago."  Sobek was a certified nightmare, but Murdock couldn't help remembering the feel of the wind in his hair, or the sight of the distant ground from under her arm.  She'd tucked him under one arm like he was Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen and she was Superman.  Course Superman didn't have pit viper fangs in a flip top head, or a bunch of brain dead flunkies that had to be repeatedly reminded not to damage the merchandise.

"If you've been here that long, you've been here long enough to see her fangs.  That woman isn't even a vampire, she's some kind of snake demon or something."  Josh shook his head, not adding how much he hated snakes.

"Awh, I don't know she's got that cute little hiss when she talks.  I bet she just needs to meet the right snake charmer."  Of course she'd passed on Face for Murdock so he was uncertain who the right snake charmer might be.

"She bring anybody else in with you?"  Josh was grateful for any company in Sobek's cozy little farm, but Murdock said he knew about crazy, and Josh was afraid the man might just have been telling the truth.

"Nope.  Just little ol' me.  You got some friends that would go way out on a limb for you?"  Murdock thought the kid was probably the musician Face, and Sobek had been talking about.  He wished Face had told him more about the case before...  Mostly he wished he knew Face was safe.

"A couple.  Why?"  Josh was curious now.  Had the band gotten themselves into trouble with Sobek?  It was bad enough Snowflake had taken him in and started bottling him, if she had the rest of the band...

"I think your friends may have hired mine to rescue you."  Murdock told the kid just what he thought, and waited for the kid to make a crack about his friends needing to save *him* now.

Josh only said, "I hope your friends are good.  We need help."

Hannibal puffed his cigar.  They'd watched Face make contact with Lorelei Remillard, had followed Face and Lori back to her place, and then left the kid to dazzle the woman with his charm.  She was a vampire, and probably no kid by vampire standards, but she'd proven A-1 stand up material to all the tests he'd put her through.

//You look after the kid and I'll see if I can't come up with some information on the bad apple making trouble in...our city.//  He hadn't met a whole lot of vampires in his life.  From what the ones he'd met had told him about vampires, he'd only have so many chances to meet vampires in one human lifetime.

//I'd kinda hoped I wouldn't need to meet anymore vampires in my lifetime, but if their going to make trouble in my city, with my team...  Well, it's my duty to make some back.//  Hannibal smiled a wide wicked smile, and B.A. shook his head.

"What now Hannibal?"  B.A. wasn't to sure about Face and Hannibal talking about vampires, but he had to admit something had been done to Face.  Someone had left bruises with long clawed hands.

"Why, we go and see if we can find any vampires that'll explain to us *why* one would be *collecting* people!"  Hannibal flourished his cigar.
