There is a great disturbance in the Force.... From the sleek ships of the glimmering Coruscant skyscape to the lush gardens of pastoral Naboo, dissent is roiling. The Republic is failing, even under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, elected ten years eariler to save the crumbling government. Separatists threaten war, and the Senate is hopelessly divided, unable to determine whether to raise an army for battle or keep the fragile peace. It is a stalemate that, once broken, could lead to galactic chaos.
Mischievious and resolved, courageous to the point of recklessness, Anakin Skywalker has come of age in a time of great upheavel. The twenty-year-old apprentice to Obi-Wan Kenobi is an enigma to the Jedi Council, and a challenge to his Jedi Master. Time has not dulled Anakin's ambition, nor his Jedi training tamed his independent streak. When an attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala's life brings them together for the first time in ten years, it is clear that time also has not dulled Anakin's intense feelings for the beautiful diplomat.
The attack on Senator Amidala just before a crucial vote thrusts the Rapublic even closer to the edge of disaster. Masters Yoda and Mace Windu sense enormous unease. The dark side is growing, clouding the Jedis' perceptions of the events. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, a slow rumble is building into a roar of the thousands of soldiers readying for battle. But even as the Republic falters around them, Anakin and Padmé find a connection so intense that all else begin to fall away. Anakin will lose himself--and his way--in emotions a Jedi, sworn to hold allegiance only to the Order, is forbidden to have.
The Good: The cover. The writing.
The Bad: Anakin's whining!!! The action scenes.
My Review:
- I got this book a couple days after I saw the movie. I was able to see the whole movie and then some in my mind.
- The book begins with Anakin having a dream about his mother. Which he has been having for quiet sometime.
- The only real bad thing is Anakin's whining. He does it a lot in the movie and twice as bad in the book. I have nothing against Hayden Christensen. I think that he is a great actor, but the whining and the temper tantrums get old FAST.
- The only confusing thing about the book and the movie is "Who Sifo-Dyas?". I've read that is is actually Darth Sidious, who in turn is Palpatine. I mean if the Jedi can't protect their own Temple from the Dark Side, then the rest of the galaxy is basically screwed.
- The action scenes of the book and the movie differ A LOT. In the book, they seem watered down and unoriginal. In the movie, you are in complete awe of everything. Really, not just the fighting scenes but the whole movie.
- The mentioning of Qui-Gon is pretty good. It's good to see that the Jedi Council and Obi-Wan remember him.
- Obi-Wan Kenobi has really matured in the past 10 years. He has been training Anakin Skywalker quiet well. It's Anakin's inability of paying attention to his Master, that makes you love to hate him.
- The death of Anakin's mother, was a tragic thing. It's also his turning point, into what I think is the beginning of the end of the young Jedi.
- Overall the book is great. I recommond seeing the movie first. If you read the book then see the movie, you might be disappointed. There are some parts that is in the book that is probably of the cutting room floor.
