James Pleasant Griffin
Enlisted in Union County, Company D, 37th regiment, North Carolina infantry, Confederate Army. John B Ashcraft-Captian. Was wounded in the second battle of Manassas,Virginia,29th August 1862. Was hit between left knee and foot. On April 10th, 1894, the lower leg was amputated due to the wound suffered during the war. He applied for a soldiers' pension in 1893-pension number 1268. At this time he had a wife and five children-ages 56, 27, 26, 25, 22, and 14. Had 41 acres of land worth about 700 dollars, 2 horses, 1 cow, and 15 hogs. Lived near Dresden Tennessee.
We have two great-great grandfathers who served with the south during the civil war. They are grandfathers of Alice(McDonald) Gardner.
