Patrolling the thick clouds of Bespin are police vehicles called twin-pod cloud cars. These vessels feature a combination repulsorlift and ion drive that provides fast response time at incredible altitudes.
Manufactured by the local Bespin Motors corporation, the Storm IV cloud car features a port-mounted pilot pod and a starboard-mounted gunner pod. Housed in nosecone slots of each pod are blaster cannons. Mounted on the boom connecting the two pods is the ion engine that is left open to allow for efficient cooling.
Cloud City's Wing Guard use the Storm IV cloud car. Visitors to Cloud City must check in with the Wing Guard before being cleared to land. There are also unarmed civilian models of the craft.
Original concept sketches of the twin-pod cloud car didn't feature twin pods, and instead had pilots sharing a compartment, or sitting in twin compartments in the main body of the vessel. One of the early production paintings featured a blue cloud car, which would have been very difficult to produce with the limitations of bluescreen compositing in the early 80s.
