FLASH GORDON TRIBUTE:

As a kid growing up on comic books and movies. My mother introduced me to the Flash Gordon Serials Starring Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon. There was a local tv channel that played the serials during the weekdays. I remember liking the show very much. My school had a collection of the Flash Gordon Comics written by Alex Raymond. I was a bookworm in school. I read Superman, Batman, and Marvel Comics. I remember reading the Flash Gordon Comics and wanting to make my own version of the film. I didn’t have a cast yet. It took me many years to finally write a script. I then wrote a script in early 90s. I do remember watching the 1980 film. It was okay. The cast was wrong. I liked the look of the film and the music score. I did like how they had pictures of the comic book of Flash Gordon during the opening credits. I think Flash Gordon should be more serious like Star Wars or Superman.

The first Serial of Flash Gordon is my favorite. It introduced the characters and had a better story. My script follows the first movie. I updated the movies for the 90’s audience. I made it as a epic like Braveheart, Star Wars, Conan The Barbarian. I remember hearing many years later that Lucas wanted to make Flash Gordon, and studio that owned the rights said No WAY. So Lucas created Star Wars and the rest is history. Buster Crabbe captured the role of Flash Gordon just right. It was a hero like Captain Kirk and Superman.. fighting for peace and justice for the planet Earth.

I had a few ideas for casting for my film but then my friend and I saw a movie called Arena. It starred Paul Satterfield. He looks like a young Christopher Reeve. He was perfect for Flash Gordon. He recently appeared in a tv movie about hugh Hefner. There was a scene with a young Hefner watching the first Flash Gordon Serial. It was cool since Paul was also in the movie. Mt friend told me that Patrick Stewart would be a good choice to play Ming after seeing an episode of Star Trek:next generation. He would be a great choice. I had the idea of casting Jeff Goldblum as Prince Thun, a lionman that befriends Flash Gordon. Goldblum did the movie”The Fly” and wore a costume for that film. I thought his Co-star from The Fly would be great for Dr. Han Zarkov after seeing his scene in The Fly2. He would use the same intro when he is introduced in the Flash Gordon Film. I remember watching a tv series called “Flying Blind”. It starred Tea Leoni as this beautiful woman who had a relationship with a nice jewish man. She had the look and voice for the role of Princess Aura. Aura is the daughter of Ming and she is after Flash Gordon for herself, while her father likes Dale Arden. I had one actress that I thought would be good for the role.. but then reconsidered Terry Farrell from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Dale Arden. She looks like the girl next door. I rather have her then a box office actress that cann’t act, who would remind quiet for this piece. Years later Tea got popular with another tv series and some movies. She then married David duchovny. I never saw the series of the X-Files until the movie come out. I then saw the series after that. The type of character that Prince Barin is.. would be perfect for David. It would also show a different kind of role. He is after Princss Aura who loves Flash.. There is a 3-way relationship.. which would be interesting since both Tea and David are married. I am sure they would love to make a movie together.
