1942 **
Shoot em up
This game is entertaining, but not very difficult. It is jumpy and
uninspired. If you want a really well made game with the same concept,
try 1943
1943 ***1/2
Shoot em up
This is a great game. It's set in WWII, but they threw all realism
out the window. What other WWII game features spacemen, barrels and cows
as power-ups? A must play!
8 Eyes **1/2
Platform Quest
This game is highly overrated. When it first came out, it was compared
to CastleVania, but can't hold a candle to it (pun!). The only similarity
is the fact that they both use a lot of brown. This game does get kudos
for one unique idea: In two player mode, the second player is Curtis the
falcon, and does add a whole new dimension to the game.
Adventure Island **1/2
Platform
Here's the famous game that started it all. Although fun, it gets really
repetitive really fast. There just isn't enough variety of game play. This
problem was fixed in AI2.
Adventure Island 2 ***
Platform
A great game! This game is spread out across 8 distinct islands, and
the best part is the 4 different dinosaurs that add some much needed variety
to the familiar AI formula. A must play!
Adventures of Lolo ***
Maze
This is a puzzle fan's dream. Maneuver the cute fuzz ball past mazes
and monsters in a game that's more hand-mind than hand-eye.
Adventures of Tom Sawyer *1/2
Platform
This game is a symptom of what killed the Ol Grey Box. One of the most
by-the-numbers platform game ever made. It has absolutely no distinguishing
features, and no surprises.
Air Fortress ***
Shoot em up/Action
Tons of Fun, and original. There are two types of play in here. First,
you approach the air fortress in a boring side-scrolling shooter, and then
turns into the real game. It's a fun game in which you float around the
humongous fortress. It's simple play, and seems slow at first, but after
the first couple levels, you'll be wishing it was slower! The only drawback
is that it gets unbelievably difficult, and after about level 3, you need
a map in order to find the core and then get out in time. A must play!
Amagon **
Platform
Another boring platform game. The only difference is that your little
guy, Amagon, can transform into a buff warrior at certain points. Nothing
special here.
Archon ***
Strategy
This game may look like chess, but play for a few minutes, and you'll
realize that's where the similarities end. Imagine Battlechess, only you
can control the fights! Not really strategy, but not really anything else,
either. A must play!
Athena *1/2
Platform
This is the type of game that you either love or hate. I don't think
that it's very good. It looks older than it really is, but that's because
of lazy programmers. Bugs in the game make it harder than it should by,
and unfair.
Athletic World **
Power Pad
If you have a power pad, you know that there are almost no games available
for it. This game is pretty good, but if you play 'Super Team Games', you'll
realize just how subpar this game is. Would gain another star if it were
two player.
Back to the Future *
Overhead crapfest
Avoid, Avoid, AVOID! This game sucks! It's too difficult, on account
of the strange subgames which you have to play in order to advance. In
fact, sometimes you don't even know what you're supposed to be doing without
the manual! You can lose before you even know that your playing! Avoid!
Back to the Future 2 & 3 **
Platform
You know, I don't get this game either. It is definatly more playable
than the first one, but that still doesn't make it fun. I'm also still
trying to find the originality.
Bad Dudes *
Platform
This game is Double Dragon's annoying little brother who likes to play
dressup and pretend to be cool, but just comes off as annoying. Let me
set the scene: When George Bush is kidnapped by Ninjas, who can save him?
Is it the Army? No. The Marines? No. The National Guard? Still wrong. Give
up? A couple of guys in ripped muscule shirts who are called the 'Bad Dudes'.
No, creativity does not make for a good game this time.
Bandit Kings of Ancient China ***
Strategy
This game is an aquired taste. It's an awful lot like 'Romance of the
Three Kingdoms'. I love it, but I really don't think that many other people
will. Very slow, and no action.
Base Wars **
Baseball/Fighting
This game really shines in 2-player mode. It's baseball, except that
instead of being tagged out, you can fight for your base. There is an element
added by there being different types of robot, such as flybots and tanks.
The computer is easy to fool, it gains a star from 2 player mode.
Batman ***
Platform
This game is a very, very well programmed platform game. It has awesome
gameplay, great atmosphere, and the difficulty curve is perfect! Anyone
who says that the old grey box sucks hasn't played this game! A must play!
More coming soon!
