Ok, I have to admit to a long-standing fascination with the paranormal. I've read lots of
books about bizarre phenomena, and ghosts and UFOs and all that. The internet is absolutely
full of the stuff. Here are some of my favorite pages about the paranormal. Remember that
you can read it and enjoy it without believing a word of it.
Web Pages of the paranormal:
- Fortean Times
- The official of the Fortean Times magazine, chronicling the strange. It's named after
Charles Fort, who was skeptical about scientific explanations, observing how
scientists argued according to their own beliefs rather than the rules of evidence and
that inconvenient data was ignored, suppressed, discredited or explained away.
He also coined the term "teleportation". The web page has links to odd stories, selected articles
from the magazine (I recommend the ones about the
preserved corpses of saints
and hypnagogia), and
a neat message board.
- Lunar Anomalies Homepage
- A very interesting web site. It contains a very complete rebuttal of all of the arguments of people who
say that the moon landing was a hoax. In fact, that's what attracted me to the page, and I was reading it
for quite some time before I got to the part where they allege that there's a bigger cover up of giant alien
cities on the moon, made of blue glass, which has been edited out of all of the moon landing footage and photos.
Yeah, they're nuts, but the moon landing hoax rebuttal
is really cool.
- Obiwan's UFO-free Paranormal Page
- A very old page, containing literally thousands of allegedly true ghost stories from usenet and
other sources, some dating back to 1993. Good for many hours of spooky reading. It's got some of
the most bizarre stories I've ever read; take the
Dancing Cows, for example. It also has the net's original Ghosts and Hauntings FAQ.
- Historical Artwork and UFOs
- A very neat web page filled with chrisian artwork, prechristian artwork, Pre 1947 UFO photographs and other
neat things. If nothing else, it will convince you that UFOs are not a totally modern phenomenon, and
that lots of christian artists seemed to view UFOs as divine and miraculous.
- The Shadowlands
- Another page filled with user-submitted ghost stories and an index of
haunted places! Also sections on
cryptozoology and UFOs.
- Michael Hesemann
- A Catholic perspective in UFOs. Written by Michael Hesemann, who is a devout Catholic and tourist, this
page contains information about the Fatima miracle right next to UFO pictures and speculation. Apparently,
St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina said “The Lord certainly did not limit His glory to this small Earth. On other
planets other beings exist who did not sin and fall as we did.", and Pope John Paul II, in 1999, responded to
the question "Are there any aliens?" with "Always remember: They are children of God as we are".
- Whitley Strieber's Unknown Country
- The web page of Whitley Strieber, the author of Communion. It's got some very weird science, but
a lot of the page actually makes sense. Whitley's Journal
is a good place to start reading.
