Ch 9 As he stared at him, his brother, many feelings overcame him. Anxiety ruled; he was too close to meeting Hiroshi for this to be happening. His brother could not be taken away from him again. He would not allow it. From the well-hidden corner he had hidden himself in, he hear a bit of noise. He sighed. Hadn’t he taught them better than that? He slowly stepped out and began to approach the hushed voices. “Oyuki is inside that mess.” “I know, not to mention Hiroshi apparently.” “So Leo, who’s the chick?” “We’ll worry about that later. Right now, we have to figure out a way to stop this.” “So that’s where-“ “Raph..!” “Ahem.” All four whirled around. “Sensei!” Leonardo caught himself. He lowered his voice. “We have to get inside of there. Oyuki is in there as well as…” “Hiroshi, I know. That is my brother.” Then it was true. That really was Hiroshi. This upped the stakes even more. “Well how do we do it?” Raph twirled a sai. This was getting too drawn out for his taste. “There is a manhole almost hidden by that garbage in the alley. I’ve used it before. There’s a side door there to the building. Looked like a fancy lock, though.” Mike began to drum his hand on the ground to act out his nervousness. Splinter gave him a harsh look. “Oh, sorry.” “Well, I am a great Locksmith.” Raph held up the sai. “That works.” Leo looked the situation once over. “We’ve got to move though. More cops are showing up every second.” The five moved back down the manhole they had emerged from and moved over to the one next to the bank. Leo looked around. “Ready? Sensei are you going to come with us?” “Yes, you made need help.” “Alright, then let’s move.” The garbage hid them as the moved out above. Raph moved carefully towards the door. “One good thing about an alarm system going off is that no one will notice THIS!” Raph jabbed the sai into the door. He looked inside. “Yeah, real professionals, don’t even leave anyone watching a side door.” They filed inside. Leo nodded and pointed down the hall where noise was coming from. They crept there, until they could see the bank lobby. People sat on the floor, their faces numb from the shock of the situation. Oyuki sat in the middle, her face more common, because she was beginning to get used to these strange situations she always managed to get herself into. Leo looked at Tess. She looked as though she was trying to hold in a panic attack. Her eyes were closed and she was trembling horribly. Her bottom lip shivered. Every once in a while, she would open her eyes to see what was happening, but would quickly shut them again. They quietly went back down the hall. “If we could distract those two in front for a second, and get Hiroshi and Tess out of danger, then we can clean up on the other ones before they can do anything.” It was more mouthed than whispered, but the others understood what was being said. Raph put his hand up like a gun and made a firing gesture. Leo nodded; the guns were a problem. “We need a distraction…” “We don’t want all these people to see us.” Don stated the obvious problem that had been in the back of their minds the entire time. “They’re going to, I don’t see any other way of getting around it.” Raph looked at Leo, “Then, THAT’S our two second distraction.” “But—“ Splinter stopped the excessive talking by bringing a hand between Leonardo and Raphael. This was not a time to argue. If they were out of options than so be it. The expression on his face was rigid. “I will do it.” Leo looked shocked for a second, then looked like he was going to disagree, then finally nodded. He made a few hand gestures that translated to, ‘Don and Mike cover Splinter, while Raph and I take the two out front, we then meet in the middle and take care of the rest.’ They snuck out. These guys were definitely amateurs. They did not have their eyes on the situation behind them. They only watched their hostages from time to time, but mostly the situation at the front of the bank. Splinter sighed. His children were in place, ready to cover him. (Not that he needed protection, overprotective Leonardo, sigh again) That was not the problem. Very few people had seen him since his… change. His brother concerned him most of all, but he knew this time was going to come. Slowly he stepped out and looked at his surroundings. The first person to notice him was an older employee, probably a manager, at the bank. His bottom lip dropped. “Oh my God…” This caused them all to spin around at the same time. And just like planned there were a few seconds of absolute shock. And that gave enough time for Leo and Raph to take advantage of the situation. Tess and Hiroshi, now focused on the thing that had come into the room, didn’t notice what was happening until after. Tess didn’t even realize the guy had let go of her hair, until she found herself pushed hard and her captor down on the ground. Hiroshi’s experience was very similar. They both looked around confused, as did the remaining men. And that’s when the other two came out. Mike and Don teamed up with Leo and Raph on the other ones. With only a few left and the element of surprise, the fact that they carried guns did not matter that much. The fight only lasted a few seconds, leaving all the spectators gaping in awe. In the end there was a gun pinned to the wall with a sai. It was over so quickly. The police were ready to barge in at any second, agitated by whatever happened on the inside of the bank. Raph pulled the sai out of the wall. “Nice Raph, that was real safe.” Leo smirked as he was running by. “Leo?” They both turned to see a girl looking up at him. “Hey Tess, hey look I gotta go.” “No,” she got up. “You are not leaving me here by myself. I’m coming—“ She found herself grabbed by the wrist and dragged by Leo’s friend. “Fine girl, but hurry up!” “Hiroshi!” Leonardo yelled. The old man shook his head. The sensible thing to do would be to wait for the police to come in. To NOT go with these things, but he was looking for brother, and they knew him. He ran along. “Come on O!” Mike grabbed her arm and the group left, leaving the rest of the people in the bank very confused. “We gotta beat the cops to that door with the manhole.” “Manhole?” “Not now, chica.” “Raph!” “NYPD, ha, still doesn’t have this door covered.” Raph looked around. That’s when the gunfire started. They glanced up towards the roof. “Well not on the ground anyway.” Don popped the cover. Splinter went down first. Leo gave Tess a small supportive smile as he grabbed her hand. “Down there, now.” With gunfire Tess was not going to argue. Ick. Next went Mike and Oyuki. Hiroshi began to look as if he was going to argue. Raph grabbed him and climbed down. Leo next, then Don. Tess never thought anything could smell when she WASN’T breathing through her nose. They all began running. At least they were on some part that wasn’t wet. Oh nevermind. That part ended. Yuck. Raph looked at Leo. “Apartment?” “Yeah.” And so they began to trudge through ankle deep...stuff. She was falling behind. Leo stopped for a second and waited for her for a second. “At least it’s not deep now,” he gave a small smile. “We have to hurry... and sorry about knocking you down back there in the bank.” He gave another small smile. Tess slipped. She was trying to hurry. Really, she was. Now it was on her hands. It was on her hands and she was now running away from the NYPD. Her parents were probably going to be pissed about this one. Yeah, running away from the NYPD while chasing some turtle boy in the sewer. Leo brought her out of her short daydream by scooping her up. “Sorry, but we REALLY need to go” A couple of seconds later they reached another manhole. Tess was never happier. “Where are we at?” The girl she had bumped into the bank smiled at her. “My place.” Tess hadn’t noticed her before. I guess she really did have friends who could take care of the situation. They left the old boiler room and successfully snuck up to April’ apartment. And then everyone was quiet. Oyuki went into her room for a second, then came back bringing a spare set of clothing. She handed it to Tess. “My name’s Oyuki, by the way.” The numb shock thing was starting to come into play. “umm. Thank you.” Hiroshi began to speak as well. “Yes, thank you, thank you for saving my life. But I am asking you for one more favor. Please, tell me where I can find my brother. There was a moment of silence before Splinter began to speak. “Hiroshi…” That voice! Where did it come from? “Yoshi?” “Yes.” Hiroshi turned to see the thing from the bank. “It is me.” Hiroshi’s head felt light. “It is not. It cannot be—“ That’s when the language switched to Japanese. “(It is me brother, now you know why I have never tried to contact any of you.)” “(But how, HOW?)” “(It is a long story. I-)” Hiroshi could not believe what he saw. He needed to escape. “(I need some air, I will be back.)” Hiroshi turned off and practically ran out of the apartment. Mike, who was not going to allow for his sensei to be hurt, followed. He would explain to him somehow, he would make him see. When he got to the bottom of the stairs, he turned around. “Why do you continue to follow me?” “If you would just listen for one second.” “No, I need time to think.” Hiroshi headed out the door, and Mike, not completely in his right head, followed him out into the daylight. “You cannot desert him now, Hiroshi.” “Do NOT tell me what to do child!” Hiroshi needed to escape, he needed to get away.. he turned around and ran. “Hiroshi, look out!!!” Mike saw the car coming, and Hiroshi did not. Mike did not think as he ran to push him out of the way. Tires screeched and Mike rolled right onto the hood. A man got out of the car followed by a teenage girl passenger. He turned to look at who had run out in front of his Mercedes. “What in the world?” The girl finally spoke. “Dad, it’s one of those things that saved me today at the bank. See I wasn’t lying. Oh Daddy, do something, I think you killed it!” Chapter 10 coming soon!!!
