Bren was born into an established and noble Shedir family. She was very well educated in her youth and was betrothed to a young scholar and statesman named Nhat. In 3116 (Terran equivalent 2359), on the eve of their wedding, Nhat was assassinated by hostile Cardassian forces attempting to subjugate the Shedir system. After Nhat’s murder, Brenda was deep in mourning when she received a vision while in meditation to enter StarFleet. Later that year (2360), she was among the first Shedir to enter StarFleet when she enlisted in the Marine Corps. She took the Terran name ‘Brenda’ while in Basic Training so as to stave off the apprehensions of others towards her race. In addition to her Marine billets, she also studied in Science, Operation, and Medical in an attempt to make herself indispensable to her superiors. Her unorthodox theories and tactics caught the attention of Intelligence Corps’ Vice Admiral Thomas Worthington while on her first assignment. She was accordingly drafted and after seventeen years of exceptional service and two decorations for gallantry, Bren was released from classified assignment as a Staff Sergeant E-6 and, after a brief retreat, took a skew posting as a Scientists Mate aboard the Nebula Class Heavy Cruiser USS Lancelot, NCC-74410. |

LIKES: She enjoys the tranquility of a peacefully open mind, and has slowly come to terms with her feelings towards the Cardassians. FAMILY: Shedir families are typically large. Females are fertile only twice a year and normally give birth to quadruplets. Bren is one of nine children and is especially close to her older sister Amal, who currently lives as a monastic scholar travelling between Shedir, Vulcan, Earth, and occasionally Boreth. Her parents, now both deceased, objected to her enlistment in StarFleet. They did, however, understand their daughter’s decision and there were no ill feelings between them. STRONG BELIEFS: Honoring the past enlightened philosophers through the study of Vidvat’tva, the Shedir school of philosophical thought. SPECIAL ABILITIES: Before entering StarFleet, she was a serious student of Ránaziksa, the Shedir martial art. QUIRKS: She often seeks out the open-minded and those interested in exosociology and educates them about Shedir culture. Participating in her culture with her friends helps her to feel more at home. HOBBIES/INTERESTS: She spends much of her off-duty time meditating in her quarters or in one of her holodeck programs. She is equally interested in learning and understanding about other cultures. |

"Staff Sergeant Döl is far from being a typical Marine. She, like all Shedir, is deeply contemplative and pacifistic. Because of her deeply held Shedir beliefs, she always stressed non-lethal tactics and cunning strategy over brute force and ‘blitzkrieg’ violence in her assignments. Her culture and her beliefs are paramount and she could not allow them to be compromised under any circumstances. Many of her superiors, including myself, admire her devotions." - First Sergeant Petra Iatros MD PhD Chief Corpsman, XSS Elysium-C |

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE SHEDIR: The Shedir are a politically elusive species native to Shedir VI, a cool somewhat mountainous Pelagic Class world (Class O) in the Alpha Quadrant. The Shedir are an advanced civilization with a rich culture, whose current era dates from the birth of the first in a long line of enlightened philosophers (on 29 May 1500BCE). The Shedir year consists of 452.16 days divided into nine fifty-day months with two additional days, or three every six years, for the year’s end festival called the Anandotsava. Most Shedir are agrarian, however they are also renowned throughout the quadrant as philosophers and scientists. Shedir have a life expectancy at birth of approximately 70 years (85 terran years, significantly shorter than the Human 127 terran years). Shedir children are all born with blue eyes, which take on their indicative golden qualities as they reach sexual maturity around the age of eight. Shedir children develop considerably faster than Human children, reaching full skeletal development by the age of eleven. The Shedir are a deeply philosophical and contemplative people steeped in ancient traditions and complex ceremonies. Despite living a highly meditative lifestyle, the Shedir people are quite technologically advanced and entered into interstellar travel in 2876 (2062, before the invention of warp drive by Zephram Cochran on Sol III). First Contact with the Federation was made in 3055 (2284) by Commodore Anika Kirin of the Callisto Class Science Cruiser USS Sapphire, NCC-2261. Shedir is precariously situated in an unclaimed region of the galaxy between the United Federation and Cardassian Union, near StarBase 375. Despite remaining largely neutral in galactic affairs, the Shedir Government officially joined the Federation on 1 Ekaa 3126 (Saturday 1 May 2371, stardate 48329). Many Shedir currently live on Vulcan, as well as in the Himalayan Region of Earth, whose terrain and climate is similar to their homeworld. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
