OVERVIEW
The TME-123 Tortoise (often called "The Bloated One" by TME engineers) is a massive underwater transport capable of carrying a lance of medium tanks or a half-lance of BattleMechs. Concieved as an "underwater dropship," the TME-123 Tortoise can be used for surprise attacks against coastal installations or to move about on water-rich worlds much more safely than by surface transport (or, in some cases, aerial DropShip). This behemoth is propelled by four powerful multi-turbine engines powered by the two-hundred-plus-ton fusion reactor in the Tortoise's rear. It is defensively armed with twin short-range torpedo four-racks on side sponson. Thin-skinned, it depends on an escort of TME-122 Spitting Fish, TME-127 Narwhals, or TME-128 Swordfish as it ponderously crosses the sea at 21.6 kilometers per hour.
DEPLOYMENT
The TME-123 is so rare it is often considered a custom craft. Entire Houses buy only a few to use in special operations.
