OVERVIEW

The TME-127 Narwhal is designed to defeat anti-submarine vessels like the TME-126 Whaler.  Based on advanced hydrodynamic principles, the TME-127 is much more like an AeroSpace fighter than a traditional submarine as it uses control surfaces rather than ballast tanks and simple fins for maneuverability like conventional submarines do.  The Narwhal is equipped with ballast tanks, but they help it adjust to variable underwater pressures and provide emergency vertical movement.

CAPABILITIES

The TME-127 was supposed to be armed with a Piranha Tide medium-range torpedo forty-rack and a Piranha Pack medium-range torpedo ten-rack but due to delays in production is armed with one long-range torpedo fifteen-rack and two short-range torpedo six-racks.  One of the short-range torpedo launchers is set to the rear to discourage over-ambitious trailers as well as provide a surprising flanking attack.

DEPLOYMENT

The effectiveness and ease of use of Narwhals make them perfect for hunter-killer missions as well as escorting underwater transports.  In one example, a planned assault carried by TME-123 Tortoise underwater carriers was nearly foiled by the presence of several Monitor-class heavy patrol surface vessels.  The six Narwhals attached to the raiding Tortoises quickly moved ahead of the slow behemoths and concentrated their firepower on one Monitor after the other, overcoming them before they could mount any sort of response.  The raid was easily launched with minimum fuss and was successful.
