OVERVIEW

The TME-138 Night Hawk is an assault-class attrition fighter based partly on the "Night Hawk" fighter used in the Silent Death S/TS and partly on the BLR-series BattleMaster BattleMech.  When first introduced in 3015, the TME-138 was advertised as "the BattleMaster of the skies," with a similar armament dedicated to close-range bruising and a brotherly dedication to large amounts of armor.

CAPABILITIES

The oddly-shaped vessel even sported the same 340-class fusion engine used in the BattleMaster, which gave it an acceleration profile similar to the CSR-series Corsair medium fighter.  A short-range missile six-rack was split among the forward mandibles (three tubes each) and supported with a crystal-mirror array particle-projector cannon mounted on the ventral centerline below the bubble cockpit.  Two medium lasers were assigned to each wing as two more protected the rear from curious enemies.  This fighter was considered superior to an SL-class Slayer because of its superior armament and its better handling in an atmosphere.  However, like the BattleMaster, the TME-138 Night Hawk was quite rare.

VARIANTS AND DEPLOYMENT

When the discovery of the Gray Death memory core and the return of the Clans planted the seeds of a technological renaissance in the Inner Sphere TME designers decided it was high time to upgrade the Night Hawk to the new technology.   In 3050 the TME-138-A Night Hawk Advanced was introduced, armed with a profile very similar to the TME-55 BattleMaster T.  With a new extra-light engine and double the firepower, the Night Hawk was the new master of the skies.  Each forward mandible now had a complete short-range missile six rack housed in it and the crystal-mirror array was modified to supply two particle-projector cannon.  Four medium lasers in each wing could slam enemies at close range as twenty double-dissipation heat sinks kept the Night Hawk cool in battle.  The copious tonnage left was dedicated to the new ferro-aluminum armor.

Almost all TME-138s in service have been upgraded to -A specs, and more TME-138-As are bought every day.  This fighter appears to have cornered the heavy anti-DropShip market in some places.

DESIGNER'S NOTE:    It be a "Night Hawk" Fighter, copyright Iron Crown Enterprises.  They went Chapter 11 recently, but I still give them credit for coming up with a very, very, very ÜberCool fighter.
