OVERVIEW

The TME-154 Bugbear was concieved when a successful TME engineer spending "field time" in the Battletech S/TS during a Kurita attack against the Davion world of Tierra Verde in 3011.  This TME engineer, working with the five Davion 'Mechs that survived the initial Kurita onslaught, assisted this field-lance in 'Mech field modifications and repairs.  A boisterous MechWarrior, "Esped," who piloted a VND-1R Vindicator constantly pleaded for this engineer to take of the small laser on his 'Mech and slap on a heavy autocannon, totally oblivious to the space and mass differential between the two weapons.  During lunch one day, this MechWarrior described his dream 'Mech as having two particle projector cannon and a heavy autocannon with less mass than a MAD-3R Marauder.  The engineer laughed at Esped's dreams until he returned to the WZ and remembered that Clan technology could accomplish this.

CAPABILITIES

The Bugbear is an oddity when compared with standard Clan design philosophy.  It is slower than most Clan heavy 'Mechs, and carries only a few heavy weapons instead of one or two heavy weapons supported by a plethora of lighter guns.   This is because the Bugbear is intended to be a "pivot" in Star-level strategy:  The Bugbear can remain in one area providing both close- and long-range fire support while other 'Mechs pivot about it to meet changing threats.

Extended-range particle projection cannon in the arms give the Bugbear an impressive amount of damage potential at extreme ranges while sixteen double heat sinks easily dissipate the massive amounts of heat these weapons emit.  A rapid-fire heavy autocannon above the cockpit, affectionately referred to as the "Recoiling Rattler," quickly shreds the structure from any close target.   Despite having only enough ammunition for fifty seconds of rapid fire, the intensely-packed firepower the Recoiling Rattler spits out can quickly change the tide of a battle.  In addition to its firearms, the Bugbear carries ten tons of ferro-fibrous armor about its carriage, protecting it well from opposing weapons fire.

DEPLOYMENT

The TME-154 Bugbear, named after one of Esped's favorite mythical baddies, is a popular 'Mech in Clan forces to this day, although some have been modified to carry secondary weapons and fill other combat roles.
