OVERVIEW

The TME-69 is a relic of a sad era in Weirdo Zone S/TS Human history.

In the Imperialist days of the Terran Dominion, crime was cruelly punished.  While socialist controls nipped most crime in the bud by eliminating the need for citizens to resort to crime to survive, the alien subjugant races weren't so lucky.  Forced into poverty and crime by an unfair system, they were inevitably captured and forced into forced labor.

The truly sad thing is that these near-slaves believed strongly in the socialist doctrine, as professed as the large (too big to be eliminated) Weirdoist faction, founders of the Terran Dominion and the later Weirdo Zone, and felt that it was their own fault for breaking rules they had no way out of.  These honorable beings were willing to give their lives to clear their names and the honor of their families.

The Terran Dominion, in its imperialist expansion, was more than willing to "help."

CAPABILITIES

The Kamikaze is no more than a lightly armored shell with a basic engine and transmission system and filled with either cheap trinotoulene or octonitrous explosives.  Electrically fused, these explosives were set to both a large red destruct button in the cramped cockpit and a contact trigger on the front armor plate.   When either of these were depressed, the explosives would ignite and shower shrapnel and burning debris across a 120-meter radius.

DEPLOYMENT

This, in the form of the TME-69, is now produced by Houses Kurita, Liao, and Marik.  Kurita and Liao use them as a form of honorable suicide for the dispossessed and dishonored.  Instead of committing painful and wasteful seppuku or hara-kiri, warriors can instead both regain honor for their familial line and remove Clan invaders.  House Marik uses the Kamikaze as a way to punish the most deviant and violent political dissidents and criminals.  This is not a new concept in the Inner Sphere; even the relatively enlightened Houses Steiner and Davion use mostly convicts to operate J-27 munitions carriers, a notoriously dangerous duty.

VARIANTS

For those who like the cost-effectiveness of land bombs but despise the needless murder of the occupant, the TME-70 is a more expensive, less deadly (both ways), but more humane variety.  With tested drone technology, the TME-70 is an effective land bomb.  However, it does require the purchase of the expensive TME-71 Kamikaze Carrier.
