OVERVIEW

The TME-90 Nimrod is based on a Bipedal All Terrain Armored Vehicle (BATAV) found in the Earthsiege Space/Time Sphere.  It is a low-tech, low-cost BattleMech which is intended to give worlds of little means access to the tactical and psychological advantages of BattleMechs without needing the prerequisite skills in fusion technology nor myomer sciences.

CAPABILITIES

A BATAV is an armless walker powered by an internal-combustion engine.  Myomers operate its legs, but the turret-like torso is powered by electrical servomotors.  Weapons can either be placed in the relatively empty torso or bolted to the sides, making them de facto OmniMechs.  The use of energy weapons requires bulky power amplifiers, so lasers are usually attached to the hull.  A low-tech BATAV is less effective than a similarly sized BattleMech:  Slower, with less armor and less weapons, it is chained to a fuel supply as well as a supply for its usually ammunition-based weaponry.  However, it costs far less and is simpler to repair and maintain.

The TME-90 Nimrod readily accepts six weaponry loadouts which meets its intended mission goals.  The Primary loadout has a lone 10-class autocannon with enough ammunition for ten bursts.  The Fire Support loadout carries twin long-range missile five-racks, a short-range missile four-rack, and a machine gun, all with reasonable supplies of ammunition.  The Assault loadout carries tandem short-range missile six-racks with a respectable amount of ammunition.  The Multirole loadout carries a medium autocannon and a short-range missile four-pack.  The Thresher loadout carries twenty-four machine guns with an extremely large ammuniton supply.   The Energy loadout carries four medium lasers with a minimal decrease in leg armor.

DEPLOYMENT

The TME BATAVs are finding acceptance in the Periphery, where vehicle techs who are used to IC engines acclimate quickly to the familiar technology in BATAVs.

DESIGNER'S NOTE:    The Nimrod is based partly on a HERCULEAN (HERC) walker from the Earthsiege 2 computer game--the Tomahawk, I think.
