The pinnacle of the Ultramarine Chapter command structure lies in Marneus Calgar, its commander-in-chief and its chief tactician. One of the wisest and most innovative tacticians in the Imperium, Marneus Calgar leads an operation smoothly and effectively with lightning strikes at the weakest points of an enemy. Having defeated the first onslaught of the Tyranid Invasion, he knows the primitively insidious tactics of those aliens well and uses this knowledge to its greatest use.
As a good commander does, he joins his brothers in battle whenever possible. It is true that he usually has a large retinue responsible for keeping the foe from bothering him too much, but if they do succeed in reaching him it will be a terrible day for them as he beats them sensless with the war-relic Gauntlets of Ultramar.

The Gauntlets of Ultramar, won by Primarch Roboute Guilliman from a Chaos Lord, are ancient relics of extreme power whose internal workings are unknown to the Universe. They are used only by the Lord of Macragge and, when not in use, are stored in the Shrine of the Primarch.

Calgar's personal transport is a heavily modified Rhino armored personnel carrier. Armored in a shell of an advanced armor composite and armed with a starboardside heavy bolter and portside missile launcher, this modified Rhino is an acceptable armored combat vehicle in its own right. Nevertheless, its mission is to avoid combat and to carry Lord Macragge from situations that are dangerous to the greater good of the campaign.
