Short Synopsis:
Acting on a tip from an inside source (Deep Throat), Mulder and Scully
travel to Idaho to investigate unusual disappearances of army test
pilots.

Detailed Synopsis:
Mulder pulls some strings to investigate the disappearance of a test pilot at Ellens Air Force Base-the sixth pilot to turn up missing since 1963.

Before they can leave, Deep Throat confronts Mulder in the bathroom. He says he has "an interest in your work," and warns him to "leave this case alone."

Mulder and Scully meet with the pilot's wife, who says he's been behaving strangely: sprinkling fish-food flakes on his food at a dinner party, yelling at the kids for no reason, and shaking as if he were having a seizure. Later they see two darting lights in the sky. They go to the Flying Saucer Cafe looking for "UFO nuts" where Mulder sees a picture of a UFO that looks like a shot supposedly taken in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. "This is gonna look real good on my field report," says Scully.

Mulder explains that Ellens is rumore to be one of six sites where parts of the wreckage of that UFO crash were taken. He believes the government is testin planes built using UFO technology, the strain of which may be causing the pilots' behavior.

The missing pilot shows up, but his wife insists he's different. "That's not my husband," she says. "They've done something to him."

Mulder thinks the pilot's brain may have been "rewired" to make him forget some things so he wouldn't be a security risk. Soon after, Mulder and Scully are stopped by a group of armed men and told to leave immediately or suffer the consequences. Scully urges her partner that they should leave this case alone; but he takes off and is caught in a secret area after seeing one of the UFOs.

Mulder is strapped to a gurney and injected with drugs. Determined to get him back, Scully takes one of the security men hostage and goes to the base, where Mulder is brought to her, groggy and glassy-eyed. He has no memory of the events while he was held at the base.

Mulder meets Deep Throat again while jogging. Deep Throat says that he can help Mulder, but that their lives may be in danger now." His interest, he says, is the same as Mulders: the search for The Truth. When Mulder says, "They're here, aren't they?" Deep Throat responds, "Mr. Mulder, they have been here for a very, very long time."
