In Deep Space Nine we got to meet a lot of interesting species not the least of which were the Ferengi.
Although they did appear briefly in TNG they were portrayed as being rather primitive. In DS9 they were allowed to be more intelligent as befits a spacefaring race.
Quark and Rom are brothers. Quark, the older of the two, on your left, is the perfect Ferengi; His first and last thoughts of the day are of profit. Quark owns the tavern and holodeck concession on the promenade at DS9. He uses his roll as older brother to exploit Rom to the utmost.
Rom, it may be said, was shortchanged in the greed department. He is more mechanically inclined and keeps the holodeck suites and other equipment running at Quarks' place.
The Rules of Acquisition
After much cajoling(we told him it would be profitable), Quark was persuaded to collaborate on the book seen here. Its' concise wording says much about the Ferengi mindset. Here are a few of my favorite entries. #1-Once you have their money.....you never give it back. #6-Never allow family to stand in the way of opportunity. #13-Anything worth doing is worth doing for money. #35-War is good for business. And the very best of all..... #285-No good deed goes unpunished.
