DS9 was not all shoot 'em up action packed escapism. There were many moments dedicated to peaceful pursuits and thought provoking subject matter. Take a quiet journey with a loved one. Do your best to patch up that broken relationship.
I have to admit that although Deep Space 9 was the least like the other series it was my personal favorite.
The slower pace allowed for better developement of characters. We got to know them better and learn of their inter-personal relationships and the motivations for their actions.
The series also had a very strong cast. I'd match them up against any other group for their acting ability. Given the subject matter which is necessarily fantastic, and often outlandish, that is saying a lot.
