UNDER THE NIGHT/AN AFFIRMING FLAME

The very first episode of Andromeda has all the key attributes to make a good pilot episode of a sci-fi show. Space battles, fantastic ships, a fearless leader, deceit and chaos, as well as humour and characters that you wish you knew in reality.

Dylan, the fearless leader I mentioned before, is your classic run of the mill hero, honourable to the end, which is why he is one of the few that remain onboard the Andromeda after the rest of the crew has fled.

Andromeda is an original character and that makes her intriuging. 'Andromeda' attempts to explore the living persona of a ship theory furthur than it has been taken before.

Beka and her crew seem like a nice enough group, a little rag-tag maybe but they are scavengers, for lack of a better word. We get the idea that Beka might be longing for something more than command of a cargo ship and as we know, she'll get it.

Basically, I can't seem to fault this episode. Although I did feel that the reasons for Dylans new found crew to join the ship seemed a little thin.
