Friends at the End, Lyrics

Friends At The End

The telephone rings you pick it up you say hello, hello this is an old friend how are you
I'm fine you say and you?
There's a little awkward small talk and then the bad news
Have you heard, so and so's caught the big one
It was just like that right out of the blue
You wanna know how how bad
Just a matter of time is the clinical view

Oh my, nobody wants to die but it can hit you right between the eyes
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line

You put the phone down thinking oh god not another one
Then close to tears
You selfishly begin to count up all the loved ones you have lost
Over the years
You try to picture their faces while there's something going on
In the place where your stomach used to be
Then you realize it's the oldest and the coldest feeling ever known to humanity

Fallen fruit must decompose
Feed the birds and busy those
The squirm around in the graveyard mud
Empty bedpans and wash away the blood
Oh my
Nobody wants to die but it can hit you right between the eyes
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line

On a cold and sunny late November day you walk around under clear blue skies
Kick some leaves, sniff the bonfire smoke and attempt to philosophise
How will it be when it's your turn to go?
Will you find a few famous last words to say?
Or will you simply fall asleep knowing that nothing in the universe ever really goes away?

Oh my, nobody wants to die but it can hit you right between the eyes
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line

Here come all the suns
Here comes all the light
Everything and nothing in one
Sweet kiss goodnight
Everything and nothing
All creatures great and small
Everything and nothing
God bless us all
Worn out shoes
And rusty cars
We are all the stuff of stars
Sub atomic carbon based
Every day is made in space
As it was before your birth
Nothing lasts forever on earth

Oh my, nobody wants to die but it can hit you right between the eyes
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line
When you're talking about friends at the end of the line

Yesterday

Yesterday was a good day. I saw the Incredibles with Di then we went back to her house and ate hamburgers, fries and salads then got "relaxed." Later I went to Cobb's to see Neil Innes. What a nice and talented man. The audience was encouraged to sing along, if we knew the words. He did a song, in the middle of all the funny, about getting the phone calls that one gets when a friend has died. Friends at the End of the Line, I think it was called. It made me tear up. I'll check to see if it's on his site and will post a line if it is. It's a wonderfully accurate.

I met up with a fan of Python whom I had met up with before at a Palin signing, so that was nice.

Here are a couple of pictures: The first was just a regular picture.

However, this one was a backup in case the first wasn't any good. I said, "Should we move slightly so it's clear that they are different pictures?" So, Neil bent slightly and I looked manic.

It was a fun day.

Okay America

You are fucked.

I thought you should know that I know. And it's not just me, there are sooooooo many of us walking around with glassy eyed expressions, like prom queens that woke up in the back of a van and no memory of what happened, but knowing that it must be bad.

Now it's the afternoon of that day and our prom queens have showered, had coffee, and are now thinking about how those responsible should pay. There will be pay back.

I don't mean violence, because that only inspires more violence, but those who voted to let GW back in the White House will see their mistake, and they will realize that it's too late.

I hope you're proud of yourselves.
