You react the way you do because you used to be an idealist.

And somewhere between the ages of three and ten, you learned that idealists never prosper.

And somewhere between the ages of twenty-two and thirty-nine, you proved it.

And then, at the age of forty, you forgot.

This man who caused you to forget one of the truths that ruled your life has now reminded you. And you knew, at the time, that it was ridiculously unwise of you to allow yourself to forget; but you wanted to.

You realise, now, that what you want is never right.
