Summary: A short poem from Remus to Sirius, after the deaths of the Potters. I think it applies to a lot of people metaphorically, though.

We were two animals in the night, you and I;
Joyous, faithful, wild.
The night went quickly with you by my side -
Too quickly,
For now you are gone
And I howl my anguish to the moon.
I am a man now, and know you are lost
For you were not who you appeared to be -
But in the night,
The animal knows only that it is alone;
And it searches,
Unceasing.
