Summary:

Michael Long, a policeman, is shot and left for dead. The shot is deflected by a plate in his head, but ruins his face. He is saved and his face reconstructed. He is reluctant, but agrees to use K.I.T.T. to help the Foundation for Law and Government fight criminals who are 'beyond the reach of the law'.

Summary From Tape:

While working on an undercover case involving industrial saboteurs in Las Vegas, policeman Michael Long (played by David Hasselhoff) is shot in the head. Miraculously, the bullet is deflected by a plate in Long’s head and he is given a second chance at a life in crime fighting. Dying, eccentric millionaire Wilton Knight (played by Richard Basehart) transforms Long’s identity via plastic surgery and bequeaths him a talking, computer-controlled car, the Knight Industries Two Thousand or K.I.T.T. for short. With K.I.T.T., Michael Long (who is now rechristened Michael Knight) becomes the millionaire’s emissary to conquer crime and confront criminals beyond the limits of the law.
