History: Phoebe Halliwell was born in her family manor in San Francisco on November 2, 1975 to the good witch Patty Halliwell and human Victor Bennett. Phoebe had two older sisters, Prudence and Piper. Phoebe was named after Patty's favorite aunt. Phoebe was born in the Halliwell family manor at 7571 Prescott street, in San Francisco.
Although Phoebe had been born with the power premonition Penny bound their powers to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers.
Victor and Patty's mother Penny argued that he couldn't protect his own children from the supernatural since he was merely human, and Victor left (recounted in We All Scream For Ice Cream 3.10).
On February 28th, 1978, Patty was drowned fighting a demon, which Prue witnessed (recounted in P3H2O).
Phoebe and her two sisters were then raised by their grandmother Penny Halliwell.
Phoebe was a good student, and once earned an award for student of the month. At the age of 10 Phoebe was transported by a
spell cast by her future self to the year 2002, where she met two older versions of herself, her sister Piper, Piper's husband
Leo Wyatt, and Phoebe's future boyfriend Cole Turner. Cole protected her from the demon Kurzon and then she visited the realm of whitelighters with Leo. After she helped the older Phoebe listen to her heart about marrying Cole she returned to her own time, where Penny quickly erased her memory of the time travel (The Three Faces of Phoebe 4.14).
After completing high school Piper and Prue then moved into an apartment together in Northbeach where they stayed until
the Penny became ill and they moved back in with her. Prue became engaged to a man named Roger and she asked Piper to be
her maid of honor. About the time Piper and Prue first ran into whitelighter Leo Wyatt, but didn't know who he was. Roger
kept coming on to Phoebe secretly, then claimed Phoebe was making unwanted romantic moves on him. About this time Penny took a picture of the three of them together in front of the manor. Penny planned to use a potion to bind the girls powers forever, but she died before she could use it. Phoebe then left for New York to search for their father (PreWitched 3.17).
Six months later, after having fallen on hard times, Phoebe returned to San Francisco and moved back in with her sisters. It was then that Phoebe discovered the Book of Shadows in their attic and learned that she and her sisters were members of a long line of good witches (Something Wicca This Way Comes 1.01).
Phoebe is one of three sisters called the Charmed Ones, powerful good witches who protect the innocent.
Phoebe's old boyfriend Clay came into town after helping steal a cursed urn in Egypt. He tried to have Prue auction it off, but when she learned it was stolen she had it removed from the auction. When the guardian of the urn attacked Clay the sisters saved him (Feats of Clay 1.11)
Prue then received a message on the Halliwell's spirit board from Max, a young boy with witch powers who had been kidnapped and was being forced by bank robbers to help them break into places. About this time Leo Wyatt also returned to the Halliwell house and got together with Piper. While Leo was working on the house, Phoebe discovered him levitating to replace a light bulb and he had to admit to being their whitelighter, or guardian angel. Leo made Phoebe swear not to tell her sisters about him. Although Leo loved Piper he knew romances between witched and whitelighters were forbidden. Leo explained to Piper that his work would keep him away from her and she accepted that. Prue was able to rescue Max and reunite him with his father, who Leo had secretly healed after the robbers shot him (Secrets and Guys 1.14).
Phoebe was once turned evil by the Woogie Man, being granted the power to make objects out of shadow, but her sisters saved her (Is There a Woogie In The House 1.15).
When the sisters were attacked by the warlock Nicholas, who had a ring that made him immune to their powers, they cast a spell to travel back in time, where they were able to warn Patty and got her to unbless the ring. When they returned they able to vanquish Nicholas (That 70's Episode 1.17).
When Phoebe started to get hot flashes linked to visions of men being killed, the sisters learned that a Succubus was
hunting in San Francisco. The sisters cast a spell to attract the Succubus which turned Prue into a man. They were able to
lure the Succubus to her doom (She's a Man Baby, a Man 2.05).
Unhappy with her inactive power, Phoebe took classes in self defense.
Phoebe once was granted the power of flight by a Genie, who stole the power from a Dragon warlock, but that power was returned (Be Careful What You Witch For 2.22).
She developed the power to levitate, but it took some time to learn to control this power (The Honeymoon Is Over 3.01)
She started a romance with district attorney Cole Turner, who it ended up was a half demon named Belthazor, sent to kill the Charmed Ones. Although had Cole started using her to get close to the sisters, they both fell in love. When Cole's demon half was revealed Phoebe helped him fake his own death and then let everyone, including her sisters believe he was dead.
Phoebe then spent time researching Cole's past. When the evil alchemist Kierkin and his life essence creation Terra squabbled about Kierkin controlling Terra, she escaped and found her way to the Charmed Ones, where she possessed Piper during her 10 year class reunion. Keirkin followed Terra, but was slain by the Charmed Ones. Although Terra was able to pretend she was Piper for a little while eventually her sisters caught on to her plan. In order to save Piper, Prue killed her and had Terra possess Leo, forced Terra use her alchemist powers to revive Piper, then with the Power of Three the sisters were able to vanquish the essence from Leo (Coyote Piper 3.09).
After a friend of Piper's discovered that Victor was back in town Piper went to investigate. About this time Prue noticed a strange ice cream truck that seemed to be abducting little kids. When Prue and Phoebe followed the truck they were sucked into it, where they found a strange frozen park inside and many children trapped there, being sucked into the nothing one by one. Phoebe and Prue freed several of the kids and trapped the driver inside his own truck, only to learn the children were demons and the truck was good. They contacted Victor and discovered that he could open the door on the ice cream truck because only humans could and asked for his help in freeing the truck's driver and recapturing the demons. Although the driver was taken by the nothing, they captured the demons and helped the new driver get the truck. This also helped Prue reconcile her feelings for Victor, who decided to move back into town (We All Scream For Ice Cream 3.10).
A warlock named Eames killed a witch with the power of deflection under the charge of a whitelighter named Natalie. Natalie went to Leo and the Charmed Ones for help. The Charmed Ones blew off Natalie's warnings and went after Eames together, only to fall for his trick and helped Eames kill a darklighter and take his crossbow. Eames then killed Natelie and took her power to orb to the realm of whitelighters planning on taking them all out with the crossbow. Eames found the Charmed Ones waiting for him and they then vanquished him. Phoebe also confided in Leo that she didn't really vanquish Cole. The whitelighter elders were so happy with the Charmed Ones performance against Eames they lifted their probation on Leo and allowed him to be engaged to Piper (Blinded By The Whitelighter 3.11).
While preparing for the wedding of Leo and Piper, Prue started having reoccurring dreams of a dangerous man in a bar named T.J. Without knowing it her astral form was being used by her repressed emotions to get away from her responsibilities. After a murder outside the bar was blamed on Prue the police started to look for her. Victor, Cole and Detective Daryl Morris attended the wedding, and the whitelighter elders sent Patty back to Earth for the day to attend the wedding as a gift. Before the police came after Prue, T.J. crashed the wedding on a motorcycle Piper almost called it off. Phoebe talked Prue into getting herself together and Daryl, Leo and Cole found the real killer. Leo and Piper were married by the ghost of her grandmother Penny in a special ceremony (Just Harried 3.15).
When the sisters discovered a Banshee demon was killing people who were grieving, they cast a spell to track the Banshee which turned Prue into a dog. Phoebe was effected by the call of the Banshee, and turned into one herself, but they saved her (Look Who's Barking 3.21).
When the sisters learned that a demon called Shax was trying to kill a doctor, the sisters defended him, but in a fight Shax killed Prue (All Hell Breaks Loose 3.22).
After the death of her sister Prue, Phoebe met a girl at the funeral who ended up being her long lost half-sister Paige Matthews. With Paige and Piper they became the new Charmed Ones and vanquished Shax (Charmed Again Part 1 4.01 & Charmed Again Part 2 4.02).
Phoebe authored a spell for vanquishing the Source that used the power of the Halliwell's witch ancestors. When the Seer informed the Source of his coming demise. The Source unleashed the Hollow, an ancient entity which could steal magical powers. The Source used the Hollow and it's dark guardian to steal Piper's powers and in the process nearly killed Phoebe, but Leo healed her. The Source then sent a darklighter with the Hollow to kill Leo and steal Paige's powers. The darklighter stole Paige's power for the Source and wounded Leo. The Seer then foresaw that the Hollow would consume everything if the Source kept using it. Thinking they might not survive, Cole gave Phoebe a new engagement ring. At this time Paige was helping a woman named Carolyn regain custody of her child after getting out of an abusive relationship. Paige used magic to help Carolyn. The Seer betrayed the Source by contacting Cole and giving him the Hollow to help defeat the Source. The Seer and Phoebe then used their combined
abilities to put the Hollow back in it's crypt. They returned the powers stolen from Piper and Paige, but this secretly left Cole with the Sources powers. Paige then healed Leo (Charmed and Dangerous 4.13).
Cole then started getting nightmares of becoming the new Source. Paige started practicing orbing herself over distances. Cole tried to fight becoming the Source, but it kept him from revealing what happened to the sisters, as the Seer attempted to guide him on his new dark path. A demon named Kurzon planned on taking over the underworld, so the Seer fooled him into thinking the Charmed Ones were planning on attacking him. She got him to attack the Charmed Once first. Paige got promoted for her work with Carolyn, but had to turn it down for fear of using her magic for personal gain. Phoebe started to get a bad feeling about her coming marriage, so Piper suggested she use magic to find out what her heart felt. Kurzon attacked Paige, was attacked by Piper and retreated. Phoebe cast the spell to hear her hearts desire, which ended up summoning her future and past selves.
Older Phoebe refused to tell Phoebe about the events of the future for fear of changing things for the worse. Learning a young and vulnerable Phoebe was in the present, Kurzon attacked young Phoebe, but Cole protected her. Leo then took little Phoebe to the realm of whitelighters for protection. Kurzon attacked again, wounding older Phoebe. He was vanquished by the Charmed Ones, but not before older Phoebe told Phoebe to marry Cole. This returned the older and younger Phoebes to their own time (The Three Faces of Phoebe 4.14).
Cole attempted to give up his position of Source of All Evil to an evil wizard, but failed when Phoebe used her babies powers to kill the Wizard. She then joined Cole as his queen (We're Off To See The Wizard 4.19).
Phoebe tried to live the life of evil, as a combination of hormones and demonic potions made her so cranky she ended up vanquishing a good number of Cole's demons. She tried to play both side of good and evil, but realizing she couldn't Phoebe rejoined her sisters in opposing Cole. Together they cast a spell which used the power of their ancestors to vanquish Cole (Long Live The Queen 4.20).
After Cole died he ended up in the demonic wasteland where all demons go after being vanquished. His powers as the source were absorbed by the creature there, but he survived by clinging to his love for Phoebe. Although he tried to get Phoebe to help bring him back to life, she refused and asked him to move on. When Cole learned he could absorb the powers of other demons when they were killed in the wasteland, he collected an impressive array of abilities and escaped it himself, just in time to save Phoebe's life (Witch Way Now 4.22).
When the Halliwell home started to suffer from hauntings due to all the past evil killed there, Piper summoned a witch doctor to cleanse the home. Although he witch doctor did his job, he was worried about the power the sisters commanded and their susceptibility to all that evil. The council of witch doctors decided it was best for the world if they got rid of the sisters, so they cast a voodoo spell on them, hoping their obsessions would destroy them. Paige became obsessed with marrying her old boyfriend Glen, going so far as to kidnap his bride to be and impersonating her. Phoebe became obsessed with a competing advice columnist and turned him into a turkey, which she planned to serve for dinner. Piper became so obsessed with a clean house she attempted to destroy the manor and start over with a cleaner house. Leo was able to help the sisters overcome their obsessions and they warned the witch doctors not to come after them again (Obsessions 5.13).
Phoebe recently discovered she was developing the powers of an empath.
Trivia: On the Charmed television show, the part of Phoebe Halliwell is played by actress Alyssa Milano. In the episode where she swapped bodies with her sister Paige she was played by actress Rose McGowan.
Powers: Phoebe is a powerful witch with the gift of visions. She gets warnings of danger to herself and others. She has been able to tap into visions of past events. She also has started to learn how to levitate herself and can cast a variety of spells. She can see ghosts and spirits. Phoebe also has an empathic gift which allows her to sense the dominant emotions of those around her. Phoebe has taken self-defense courses and was taught by Cole how to handle a sword.
