Izabella Anna Mikołajczak (better known as Izabella Miko), Polish-American actress and dancer.

Early days. Miko is the daughter of actors Grażyna Dyląg and Aleksander Mikołajczak. As a child she sang in the children team Fasolki. In 1988 she appeared in the film Pan Kleks w kosmosie. Initially she attended the Chopin School in Warsaw, where she studied piano and in 1991 auditioned for the National Ballet School in Warsaw. After three auditions and finally a rejection, she persuaded the entrance committee convinced that she was not flexible enough, to grant her temporary admission to the school for a six-month probationary period. An American choreographer invited her to study in New York City on a scholarship, and she traveled there with her mother in 1996. She studied dancing in the highly acclaimed School of American Ballet Association (SAB) in New York City. After two and one-half years at the SAB Izabella suffered an injury to her vertebrae. Her knees followed and her ankles weren’t too far behind. She quit dancing and returned to Poland, depressed and disenchanted. Four months after her sad departure Izabella was on her way back to New York City where she studied acting at the famous Strassberg’s Actors Studio and began modeling with Q models. To act one needs an agent and agents live in LA. While in Los Angeles she began to work unofficially with an agent, this in turn led to her first audition for the film Coyote Ugly and got the role in 2000.

Career. Then, in 2001, she appeared in a thriller The Forsaken. In addition, she appeared in three episodes of HBO's Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Deadwood, and in The Killers' music video for Mr Brightside (2004). In 2006 she played Save the Last Dance 2. In 2009 she went to Poland where she played in a comedy Kochaj i tańcz (Love and dance). In 2010, Miko appeared in the big-budget remake Clash of the Titans as Athena. Then she was in a supporting role as an acrobat named Raia in the short lived television series The Cape. She also appeared in the video for The Killers' single "Miss Atomic Bomb" (2012), which is related to "Mr Brightside". Miko appeared in Billy Idol' music video for Can't Break Me Down (2014). Personal. Miko supports green politics and keeps a video blog to talk about her current concerns. In 2008 she took part in social campaign in California against a legislative correction which prohibiting same sex marriage (so called Proposition 8). She lives in Los Angeles and in New York City.

Distinctions. Miko was ranked #48 on Maxim's Hot 100 Women of 2001 list.
