The
Gestation period for Dolphins is about 12 months. A female dolphin usually
has a calf every two years. Calfs are born under water. Sometimes tail-first
and sometimes head-first. The new born dolphin stays close to the mother.
The calf is 106-132 cm long and weighs about 20 kg.
Nursing
- Calves are nursed
under water by their mother. The calf sucks the mothers nipples which are
under the abdomen. A calf is nursed for 18 months.
