Like many of Star Trek's most fascinating characters, K'Ehleyr is a woman trapped between two worlds -- in her case, the worlds of Qo'noS and Earth. She embodies attributes of the races of both those worlds. The angry fire of her Klingon blood makes her bold, while her Human sense of humor keeps her in balance and allows her to deal with life's more ironic aspects. What better profession could she have chosen than to be a Federation ambassador, to the Klingon Empire?
Nothing is known of K'Ehleyr's childhood. The earliest accounts of her activities date from 2359 when she and Lieutenant Worf began a romantic relationship. They loved each other, but from the beginning Worf's stubborn dedication to Klingon tradition clashed with K'Ehleyr's more modern views. On top of that, both were afraid of commitment. They parted company and the relationship remained unresolved until 2365 when K'Ehleyr boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise on an urgent mission.
The Klingon sleeper ship T'Ong, launched in 2290, had reappeared in Klingon space. It was feared that the warriors aboard the vessel would reawaken and, thinking the Federation-Klingon hostilities still existed, would attack the first Federation target they could find. Despite their personal problems, K'Ehleyr and Worf managed to work together to develop a brilliant plan to trick the awakened T'Ong crew peacefully back to Qo'noS. Neither, however, expected that their brief professional partnership would rekindle their own love. After an intimate encounter, Worf was ready to take Klingon marriage vows with K'Ehleyr, but she adamantly refused to become his wife. She left the Enterprise, hoping that some day they would meet again.
That day came when K'Ehleyr once again boarded the Enterprise, this time on a mission to avert a potential Kligon civil war. But she did not come alone. Her young son, Alexander -- Worf's son from their earlier encounter -- came with her. Frustrated by Worf's refusal to acknowledge the boy, K'Ehleyr tried to learn the details of his recent dishonor at the hands of the Klingon High Council. That state of dishonor was keeping Worf from embracing his own child. But unknown to K'Ehleyr, the circumstances of Worf's dishonor were tightly woven into the political machinations of Duras, who knew that if K'Ehleyr learned the truth, his father's guilt for the massacre at Khitomer would be revealed, thus dishonoring his family and ruining his chance to rule the Council. Duras murdered K'Ehleyr before she divulged the truths she'd learned. Worf avenged her death and took custody of young Alexander.
