Once decribed as the "Auntie Mame of the Galaxy," Lwaxana Troi is a sparkling whirl of boisterous ego, unabashed libido, and enough charm to entrance any man she sets her sights on. To the uninitiated, she may come across as a loud, obnoxious flirt. This is a woman who lives life to the fullest, and she will let nothing stand in her way -- not even her much more practical daughter, the U.S.S. Enterprise-D's ship counslor Deanna Troi.
A native of the peaceful planet Betazed, Lwaxana is, like all Betazoids, a highly skilled telepath. To her, speaking out loud is an inferior form of communication, and honesty in all matters is imperative. This philosophy has gotten her into trouble at times, as she plainly speaks her mind -- to anyone about anything -- but Lwaxana is sincere, and her charming manners are often overwhelming.
It is possible that Lwaxana's carefree dispostion actually hides her own wabering self-confidence and disappointment with life. She was once happily married to a human, the dashing young Starfleet officer, Ian Andrew Troi. Their marriage produced two children: Kestra and Deanna. Kestra died very young, and Lwaxana buried her grief for years until Deanna helped her accept the loss. Ian Troi died when Deanna was seven years old. Lwaxana still struggles to fill the void in her life that daughter and husband left behind.
Lwaxana has high hopes for Deanna, even though Deanna's life goals don't match her mother's expectations. The two argue whenever they visit, but Lwaxana gives in more often than not. She is stubborn, but she is also sensitive to the needs and esires of others, especially Deanna.
In 2366, Lwaxana along with Deanna and Commander William Riker, were kidnapped by DaiMon Tog, a Ferengi who lusted after Lwaxana and wanted to use her telepathic abilities for business profit. Lwaxana cleverly escaped by warning him that Captain Jean-Luc Picard, her "jealous lover," would kill Tog if she wasn't returned. In 2368 Lwaxana fell in love with and became engaged to Minister Campio from the planet Kostolain, but the marriage was canceled -- Campio simply couldn't deal with the fact that traditional Betazoid wedding ceremonies are conducted in the nude.
