Introduction to the Series
In 1995, veteran sci-fi writer Kevin J. Anderson and his wife, Rebecca Moesta picked up on the Star Wars saga 30 years after the original trilogy, and wrote a series of novels that center around the children of Han Solo and Princess Leia, and their training at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. They began writing the books as part of the Shadow Academy story arc, which consisted of six unique novels, but then wrote the Diversity Alliance saga and the Han Solo trilogy once the popularity of the series rose. The books that will be discussed on this site are part of the Shadow Academy series, and the three books from the series that will be explored are Book #1: Heirs of the Force, Book #2: Shadow Academy, and Book #6: Jedi Under Siege. Keep reading to find out more about the authors, and then continue on to the Summary page for a quick briefing on the plot and characters of the three novels. |

The creators behind the Young Jedi Knights...
Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta
Kevin J. Anderson is also the author of many other Star Wars novels, such as the Star Wars: Jedi Academy trilogy, the novel Darksaber, and the comic series The Sith War, The Golden Age of the Sith, and Dark Lords of the Sith (which he co-wrote with Tom Veitch) for Dark Horse comics. He has also written many other science-fiction novels, including two based on The X-Files television program, and a young adult fantasy novel, Born of Elven Blood, which was written with John Betancourt and published by Atheneum. Kevin has edited several Star Wars anthologies as well, including Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina (in which Rebecca Moesta has a story), Tales from Jabba's Palace, and Tales of the Bounty Hunters.
Kevin J. Anderson first realized he wanted to create science-fiction when he was about five years-old, before he even knew how to write. He had seen the sci-fi film called War of the Worlds on television and was so moved by it that he took a notepad the next day and drew pictures of scenes from the film, spread them out on the floor, and told the story out loud to his family. At eight years old, Kevin wrote his first "novel", a three page long short story called The Injection, using the typewriter in his father's den. When he was ten years old, he had saved up enough money from mowing lawns and doing odd jobs that he could either buy his own bicycle or his own typewriter. Kevin chose the typewriter... and has been writing ever since. Many years later, after he had published ten of his own science-fiction novels to wide critical acclaim, he came to the attention of Lucasfilm, and was offered the chance at writing Star Wars novels.
Rebecca Moesta dreamed about being an author since her early teenage years, but it wasn't until 1991 that she became a professional writer. With her husband, Kevin J. Anderson, she has written a movie novelization for Supernova, two young adult Titan A.E. novels, Cale's Story and Akima's Story, and two high-tech pop-up books. Born to American parents in Heidelberg, Germany, and raised in Southern California, Moesta has lived and traveled extensively in Europe. She has one son, who keeps her busy nearly every minute that she doesn't spend writing. She is also CEO and Senior Publicist at WordFire, Inc., the company that she and Kevin J. Anderson own together. Rebecca's remaining time is spent serving as final reader and copyeditor of her husband's manuscripts. Rebecca was not a Star Wars fan from day one. She was in college and looking forward to a summer break when her younger brother told her about an amazing new sci-fi movie she just had to go and see, called Star Wars. She wasn't completely convinced at first, but when a group of her friends from college suggested seeing the movie the day after it opened, she willingly agreed. When she and her six friends arrived at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood that evening and camped out for three hours in line, they had no idea what they were about to see. Fortunately, it proved to be worth the wait and her love for the movie and the series was instant and enduring.
